has anyone built or rigged up a body buck that hangs from the ceiling? I have limited space in my garage, (2 car with a 70 Mach 1 taking up one side) and was looking at hoisting the body up high and out of the way while I work on the rest. Has anyone else attempted this? Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Check out DV/DT at this link for a really nice posting on hoisting the body with pulleys. I got Airborne (http://www.ffcars.com/forums/17-factory-five-roadsters/190159-i-got-airborne.html)

Interesting rig. Thanks. Did you store it up there or just use the pulleys to help with the one man body lift?

I do not have a photo, but I stored my coupe body suspended from the ceiling for about two years. I used a 2 x 2" board spanning the wheel arches and pontoons, then mounted 4 pulleys on the ceiling at each corner. Hoisted it up and tied it off. I could lower or raise it as needed.

This thread over on the other forum talks about this. Also shows another option which is an elevated body buck. What I did on my Mk3 build and in my garage right now with my Mk4 build. The last entry in this thread is a picture I posted and more details.

Lots of guys have done it and it solves the storage issue for many. If it will work for you, go for it.

thanks guys! Being a part time carpenter this gives me a short project to tackle while waiting for my MkIV kit to arrive. I had to delay my shipment till April so I will have time to monkey with this rig and get it proofed out and tested. Thanks for the links and ideas.

If you build the buck with tall legs and wheels, you just wheel it out from over the car , work on the car and then wheel it back in over the car.

As a thought, you don't need to keep the body inside out of the weather, you just want to on a buck to protect the shape of the body until it is on the car. It is actually good for the raw body to sit outside in the sun and weather to cure it.

I just Finished hanging mine from a 14 foot ceiling in my shop, and I'm no carpenter. I did use a series of pulleys and friends to get it up there. I will post some images when I get to my computer. Pm me your email if you want me to send some detailed photos.

My understanding is FFR stores them outside until they are ready to be shipped

One little safety item you may want to think about if you can't hang the body high enough to walk under without crouching, is to buy some split pipe insulation and put it around the very bottom of the fiberglass edge.

Thanks Steve, but mine gets up high enough that gives a good 8 feet clearance underneath.
