No one knows as it has never existed....hopefully for you the ins. men wont look too closley at its performance and just go one the Scooby platform. If it gets lumped in with the C0bras you won't get ins, untill you turn 25. The less said to the ins. man the better...........Steven

Scooby platform platforming insurance sucks. When I was 23 with a good record insurance was $1900/year for my new 0t6 wrx. Now It costs me more to insure my 02 wrx than my 2011 mini cooper s.

Don't want to discourage you but unfortunately, although it is not impossible, you may find it very difficult to get someone to insure you due to your age (under 25) and consequently it could be pretty pricey when you do. There have been some father/son roadster &/or Coupe builders who have found out after the fact that they can't get insurance coverage for the young son. Since the 818 will fall into the same category it likely will present similar challenges. Good that you're thinking about this now so that you can do the research and legwork ahead of time. Good luck!

There's a current thread addressing this on the "other" forum. There are some companys that will do it, but you'll have to pay a premium I'm sure.

Most ins co, are going to charge based on the agreed value. So, if you place a value of $25k on it, than the rate will be proportional to that, taking into consideration your age, record, etc.
Every state is different concerning how to register, but most will consider it a kit car and wil have procedure for it. The fact that it's a Subi drive train should be irrelevant and the ins company will charge based on the agreed value, not the donor cars "heritage".

ATP,
Finding the potential companies that will insure you is a good strategy. This can save you some valuble time when you get ready to actually do it. It's good to get a "ralationship" going with a good agent. If you do business with them already even better. Trust me, it does help. They will do a much better job searching for a source for your special need. But just to forewarn you as some have already, I spent practically all of my income as a teenager on car insurance. Almost every dollar went for this months or future premiums. That was my cost for driving a hot rod. The driving profiles have not changed that much over the years so prepare yourself for the worst ( no short cuts or deals). Just as an example, I had my two major crashes at 17 and between 18 and 19 which pretty much fits the driving profile of a male teenage driver. Good luck, WEK.

For my WRX, driving profile is almost irrelevant. I turn 30 on Sunday, and my 02 wrx that is worth $6k at best (paid $3k for it) is $100/mo. Part of it is high limits on payouts. I could reduce those, but those limits are set to protect personal assets. If I had no assets or income potential, I would lower the coverage.
You might be able to get it insured through collector car insurance. I can't remember the names, but several guys that had high dollar autocross cars (Formula Fords) insured through them. One might have been hagerty? You just need proof usually that it's not a DD.

rates are based on a complex algorithm and vary wildly with different companies, typ include location, car ins history (other owners) cost to repair, location, coverages, driving history, age etc... the WRX is owned by many crazy drivers, that's why they are avail on Copart so often! haha, the young folks driving them typ have poor driving history etc... driving up all owners... My wife drives a big Caddy Deville, exact opposite trend... slower drivers with better records, lower ins costs
My agent has one single caveat, don't let my 20 and 16 year old drive the 1991 BMW as their primary vehicle... (Who would think that it is a $5000 vehicle at best) Living in Maine and being an old fogey at 53 works to my advanatge... My wife and I don't pay $1200 a year for all 10 cars! my kids pay $1100 total for both kids and can drive anything All are high limits, all coverages and low deductables
