I started thinking about the mounting of my spare wheels. Since we had a fairly mild day I went out in the garage to tinker with it. I previously had the wrong axles in my rear end and the Mark VIII axles that came out are not of much use to any one so I butchered one of them.
Took a piece of square stock and a hole saw of the same size as the axle and made a hole for the axel to fit. Welded the axle in place and made a cross brace for rigidity. It mounts to the two 3/4" cross tubes in the hatch frame.
Now you see it...

Now you don't!

Just needs a lick of paint for completion. The wheel hovers above the trunk floor so if I want to put carpet in, it has the room to do so. Also the tire will be wider then the rim.
I still have another axle that someone can use if they like the idea. I'll chop the end of so it's easier to ship. Let me know just pay the shipping.
