Looking for opinions on a setup.

Coupe, 347 approx 400hp. IRS rear.

What trans?
c4 seems nice because of price. This car is for my wife, she will not be beating on it. But i do want it to be desireable if for some reason one day we needed to sell??

Aod, just dont like the idea of having to hook up a kick down. but would if i had to.

computer controlled trans $4k?!?!

What stall on the converter?

What rear ratio do you think with a 3speed and a 4speed?

The AOD would be easy, the Lokar kickdown kit works great. You will need to fab up something to work with that Weber system. Gears I would think 3:27 or 3:55 would be the best choices. I think I would do 3:55 with the AOD.

I just did a dyno on our coupe with 323 and it needed more gear so a 355 would work geat!!

thanks for the info guys. What do you think about 373 gears? There may be a local unit available with them.

Out of all the trans options, do you guys think the aod would be the best bet? What about mods to the trans? IE crisper shifting, etc.

3:73 would be fun and work fine but it will tach higher on the freeway. I would go through the AOD and put better clutches, shift kit and torque converter, probably around a 2800 stall.

thanks gordon, I was thinking those could be cool gears for that car, but was not sure. The AOD would probably help a little. Its not likely it will see much over 65-70mph on the freeway with julie driving.

Also, did you see our build thread? Julie opened your parts last night and complained that they did not fit on HER very good. Guess they are going to have to get bolted to the coupe! :) LOL.

I also have some real questions about them, but i will ask when i get close to installing them, so i dont waste your time!

I did see the build thread. When you get to installing part, please feel free to call me. I am always happy to help out and answer questions.

I posted on the other forum as well but you could go with a 4R70W which is a wide ratio version of the AODE. It can be controlled with a standalone controller and has a lockup converter which would drop your RPM's on the highway. For the right bell housing you would need one from a 2WD 5.0 explorer

Like Gordon, I think the AOD is the one I would go with. It can handle the HP you will be putting to it and can easily be shifted auto/manual with a valve body kit. I have a E4OD Trans in my Dually with the Performance Automatic valve body kit and the thing will snap your neck when it shifts. I do think I would go with 3:27 gears for the rear since it will primarily be Julie's car. She will be less likely to have traction issues out of the hole. 3:55 is probably the optimal gear, but again, for Julie I think 3:27 would be better. If you decide to go with a C4 I would go with 2:80/3:00 gears. Just my $0.02
