I'm going to install a third brake light probably between the roll bars (I'm checking, but think I need it in NYS) ,and a backup light. Does anyone have pic of these lights you have installed. I would like to mount the backup maybe on the lower rear body, not hanging underneath....and want both to look like they were designed to be there and not just added on....so pics would be best (website w/pic)....I was already pointed to a few websites for these (Summit, etc.), but figure again, real installed pic would work best to actually see the look, and even possible mounting locations...thanks

Quite a few builders have used a Mini Cooper backup light:

To me the only 3rd. brake light solution I've seen that doesn't look like an odd appendage (apologies to those who have them) was several high output LEDs in the roll bar downtube(s). Don't have a picture handy.

This is the route I and a few others went, for the third brake light. Six 10MM LED's. It is most likely NOT a requirement, but it adds a layer of safety and looks really COOL. Single roll bars or full width like mine.

I'm not sure about the appendage comment, but you be the judge. Here are a couple of shots of my third brake light.

The Mini Tail light was started by "TonyA" looks neat and clean and like a factory installed unit and it is DOT.
NY does require a backup light but no third brakelight.

I did order and received the Mini Cooper backup light, but does anyone know either the type of part number of the electrical connector. I did google and every auto store in my area with no luck except usually "good luck!" I also though of just replacing the bulb socket but also no luck with a replacement.

Just wondering, in the mini-cooper backup light, could you install a White/Red LED replacement bulb, wired to the backup and brake lights?
1 housing and 2 different purposes?

az pete I'm hopping thats a photo shop !

MPTech Im sure you could do it but the light is so low I dont think it makes a good Third brake light.
Racephotoman, I'll send a email to TonyA and try to find out what he used, he has sold his FFR and doesnt partake in the forum very much.

Racephotoman sorry it took so long to get answer, Tony said when he purchased the Mini light it came with the socket and bulb. Maybe now they sell it seperately as this was in 2004.

I was looking at using something like this-- it's the cab light for a pickup truck-- the bed lights might pass for backup lights. You'd just have to make a housing:

I used these for the backup lights. Attached to the gas tank (so below the body). Never notice them since they blend into the black tank and are generally covered by the shadow from the body. Put the car in reverse though (particularly in the evening) and there is no way to miss them.

Just found these at O'Reileys and thought they would do the job (highest point on the roadster for those tall SUVs and trucks who have trouble seeing over the hoods) and still be pretty much invisible when not lit up. Wiring the halos was a little bit of a PITA but worth it since I had the roll bars off anyway to install rear legs. Thanks, WEK.

I cant help with the backup light, but here is another 3rd brake light option for a single roll bar

My bad! I revived this thread to put my pics of lights on it I recently found. I don't know if the originator is still interested (racephotoman). I just thought it was a good thread and wanted to add to the database if someone ever searches for "third brake light". Thanks, WEK.
