Got lots of learnin' to do but as I'm starting to donor shop let me hit you Subie guys up with this; The Gen 2 Forester shares the Impreza platform and from my understanding the 2.5XT engine is the same as used in the WRX, yes? What about compatability of suspension &/or brake components between the two? Trans? If Forester parts are useable in addition to broadening the donor pool it appears that they can be had for a bit less $$$.
Thanks for any input,
Jeff

Jeff, It is my understandingthat the Forester is built upon the Impreza chassis. The final drive ratio may be different but the other components ought to fit.
I am shopping both styles since my preferred drive line ( 2.5 N.A. with Automatic is far more prevalent in the Forester. plus the prices are generally a bit
lower for the SUV, too. Grandaero

It's the same as the legacy gt so same block as the 06+ wrx but the heads are slightly different

Watch out for the heads, I have friends in the subaru community and apparently the heads are a bit weaker than the impreza 2.5 na setup. The forester is more geared for towing, so the transmission will also be slightly different.

the engine is the same, but everything else is different. The transmission will most likely work, but i would guess everything else wont

The biggest difference as far as the 818 is concerned is the instrument cluster.
All the suspension parts that FFR is using on the 818 are the same, or compatible, as on a Forester (year changes considered, 2002-2007 Impreza = 2003-2008 Forester)
The engines and transmissions are 100% bolt-in compatible, as any changes from the Impreza will be contained to "inside the case".
Final drive ratios are lower, as already stated.

the 9-2x is based off of the 06-07 wrx so that would work but being a wagon the hubs/brakes are probably slightly different then the sedans the forester is the same as the legacy gt motor in which the heads are different than the 06+ wrx the turbo and intercooler configuration are different therefore your turbo choices are very limited blouch turbo has a couple upgrades other wise a lot of people do vf52 turbos off the 08+ wrx now i do believe it is possible to change the legacy/forester style to the 06+ wrx by changing the intake manifold setup but the physical motor size is the same so fitment should work as long as the different intercooler configuration doesnt cause issues for all these they are 5x100 hubs and axles are all the same style so i dont see why you couldnt use either a lgt or forester xt for a swap
i myself will be using an 05 Legacy gt transmission due to longer gearing as well as the gears are stronger than most wrx transmissions and am contemplating going with an ej207 version 7 spec c motor (forged stock internals and revs to 8250 stock) that or using an ej255 out of either a LGT, forester, or 06-07 wrx

Just to clarify parts of the confusing post above.....
The '04-'08 Forester Turbos (XT) do not use the "new" plastic manifold, flanged turbo setup from the Legacy GT and the '08+ WRX. The '09+ Foresters do.
The '04-'08 Forester XTs (turbos) use the same basic intake manifolds and turbos as the '06-'07 WRX, so any turbo meant for a '02-'07 WRX or STI can be used without issues.
The hubs/knuckles of all non-STI cars are the same regardless if they come from a "narrow" wagon, Legacy, or Forester or a "wide" Impreza sedan. The added width for the "wide" Impreza sedans comes from the control arms and lateral links, not the hubs/knuckles. There should be enough alignment capability designed into the 818 to make your choice of "wide" or "narrow" donors insignificant.

The 05 Saab 92X is the same as an 05 WRX wagon with a STI/06+ WRX steering rack. The 06 Saab 92X is the same as a 06 WRX wagon. The springs are different, but we don't use those so it doesn't matter.

Problem is getting one 5 speed with the turbo.
