I am mounting the body right now, and there are few parts that go on without some tweeking, sanding and pulling out the big hammer. I tried to put on the diffuser last night, and my buddy and I stood back and said "not even close." I am not sure where to start on this one. I will try to post a picture tonight, but here is what we see. It seems like the diffuser was made about 2 inches too wide. When I tried to allign the notches with the rear suspension, and held the diffuser in place with my floor jack, the gap between the rear of the body and the diffuser was about 6 inches (I will get exact measurments tonight too). In fact it does not fit inside the rear body cut out unless you move it back about 5 inches.

Here comes the quesitons:

Have any of the other Gen II guys seen this?

Guys at Factory Five...Have you tried to mount one of these yet? How did you do it?

have the Gen I guys had this problem.

The only fixes I can see would be to have Factory Five remold these things and fix the problem, or to cut the diffuser down the entire lenghth and take out about 2 inches of the carbon fiber and try to put it back together while hiding the seam behind on of the "fins."

I will post some pics when I have the hood fitted. The Gen II looks awesome...even without paint.

Thanks

Dave

Dave,

The Gen II diffuser mounts on the sides of the body opening and should have a 2" gap between the top of the diffuser and the body. The Gap is to let more heat escape the engine bay and it lowers the angle of the diffuser making it more efficient. The Gen1 diffuser was higher in the rear and touched the body.

We used some bolts and spacers to mount the rear section on our yellow car. The standard kit does not include fasteners for the back. It can be open there.

Brian,

Is that a Gen I or a Gen II diffuser that you are using on the Yellow GTM? There is no way that my Gen II Diffuser is going to fit like that without doing some serious cutting of the body or the diffuser. I am at work now, but I will post some pics when I get home to show you what I am talking about.

Thanks

Dave

Here are some pics of the problem with the diffuser.

I have aligned the notches in the diffuser with the rear suspension. When I lift the diffuser to the body, it hits the body and will not recess into it. That makes the gap about 4 inches (i know I said 6 inches, but I was wrong). The new diffuser is just about 2 inches too wide. Love the GTM...don't love the new diffuser.

If Factory Five will do a trade for a Gen I diffuser, I am in. I think that trying to modify this one will make me run out of four letter words, and I am saving those for the first real drive when I get the seats.

Thanks

Dave

Brian,
Can you pull the one you have currently mounted and install the one that we received with our gen2 kits? This would allow us to see it's exact fit and your techs to engineer solutions for any issues. Thanks.

The guys came to me this morning with this. Right now the tech guys are installing the diffuser on the GTM and will have a report back in the next day or two. If a part is defective, we have a tradition of doing whats right and there's no reason to think that will ever change. I'll have a full report back to you shortly.

I love that red gelcoat. You have a great looking car right out of the box.

I don't see how you're going to get that difuser look right. I couldn't get the Gen 1 to fit onto our Gen 1 car and this is 100 time worst.

I stopped by FFR today and Dave was working on the deffuser for the Gen II.
Dave said he will post pictures when done. That's why we love FFR

The guys have finished installing the Gen 2 GTM diffuser onto the car in the showroom and it looks great. We'll have a detailed update on that in a little bit. Here's a photo of the diffuser.

Mad Dog can you please post a few more pictures? At least one from the rear from a high and a low view.

The guys did not finish the procedure today so it will have to wait until next week, however, I know Dave Smith has a number of solutions including the Gen 1 diffusers for guys who are not happy. Full details next week.

I received one of the first Gen II kits and when I mounted the body today (for the first time), those were my words exactly; "the difuser is not even close"! Can someone post pictures or instructions on how to mount this thing? Tx., Mike
