View Full Version : what is the grey stuff under the black gel coat

So knocking down the seams on the body, and under the black gel coat it is grey. is this just a primer coat over the fiberglass or what ??????
please help ....
i want to knock all the seams down a lil and the spay some rattle can over it will this be ok on the grey stuff?????????

Are you seeing this grey material after you sand on the gel coat, or is it a soft clay like substance around the mold seams?

When you sand the gel coat it is going to look like that. Its just like when you sand down gloss paint, as soon as you start to sand it the shine goes away and the color looks faded. All that is is the gel coat it self, it's completely normal for it to look like that once you start sanding.

Freddie thats really aggressive! Get some 80 grit paper on as block and block the whole car grey with it, those gouges are deep! the car should be basically grey,and smooth after you block it with 80, then do bodywork...........HTH............. Steven
