My estimated date is march 1, 2014. I am hoping to find someone that has a 2013 date that would want to switch. I really wanted to have this car done in 2013, or at least ready for the beginning of 2014.
Even if someone wants to back out of buying the 818, I'll take their spot and keep my own. I've been considering ordering a 2nd kit anyway.
Thanks
Steve

So your not building the 818, or a money offer to switch.

I'm building the 818. Bought a 2002 WRX several months ago and I am in the process of breaking it down.
I don't think that it is realistic to have the kit on the road this year, and with our weather I can't drive it from October - April, so delaying the delivery of the kit shouldn't be a problem. 2014 is problematic, but a fall 2013 would work.
How quickly do you guys plan to assemble the 818 once the parts are prepped?

I am getting it in August and It will be registered by Nov, so getting it a month early for a price does not help me, but thanks. All my parts are prepped etc etc etc.

Yeah I second this Erik, its like dropping the keg and putting a hole in it.
I am j/k so don't get all hurt, but keep your date, I would not sell that, the818 is more than money, unless you really need cash

still waiting to hear back from kevin, and another person has messaged me that i'm trying to work with. If he can sell his 06 wrx donor, he will give me his spot. he has other projects that are a higher priority.
still hoping someone will have an early date like kevin that wants to get out or swap

While I wish you well in your pursuit, I wonder if FFR will buy in to any trade you might arrange. The order form states " I understand that this deposit is to reserve my production space and is non-transferable and non-refundable." Have they let you know it's OK? I hope you have good luck with it, they are great people in Wareham...

Last time I checked, "non-transferable and non-refundable" meant -well- just that.

FFR probably doesn't care who gets what spot as long as FFR is receiving its compensation. Their concerns, regarding that phrase, is to not have someone back out of their spot and leave FFR with an unsold kit on their hands, or have someone decide they'd rather have a different model and again leave FFR with an unsold 818 kit on their hands.
If a buyer backs out of a reserved spot but finds someone to take his/her spot, or if a buyer swaps spots with another buyer, FFR hasn't occurred any damages and wouldn't have any benefit in risking the potential contract torts case by saying, "Nein, no 818 for you."
I understand them not wanting early spot holders to sell their spots, based on principle perhaps. But a straight across trade between pre-existing customers benefits both customers, and therefore FFR to some extent, and a customer finding someone to take their reserved spot that would've been otherwise vacated is going above & beyond.

The way I see it...................I will remember KevinH user name forever. I sure hope he can build, because I know I can and my assistance for HIS forum queries will come for a price too then...............................Good luck KevinH :(

I didn't recall seeing that, thanks for bringing it to my attention

I don't understand why you would hold it against me that I'm trying to switch to an earlier date.

I'm positive FFR knew before they opened the order process up just how much of a rush there would be at the start.
I believe their "non-transferable and non-refundable" policy was to prevent scalping and discourage speculators -- basically people trying to make an extra buck off their customer base.
It simply doesn't make sense to put "non-transferable and non-refundable" conditions on an order unless they mean it.

I think this speaks more to lack of community than asking for a few bucks to swap a spot on line, i'm sure phone calls would have to be made by both parties so some compensation doesn't seem obscene.
On the other hand asking for a few thousand for a early spot would very much be a jerk move.
That's a lot of negativity, and what makes it worse is you are carelessly directing it at the wrong person.

Worst case, if someone REALLY wanted to sell their spot, and FFR says no, write up a legal document signed by both parties and notarized. The original date holder handles the transaction, but the kit is delivered to the new date holders house with money changing hands as appropriate. The legal document just ensures both parties hold up both ends of their deal.
I wouldn't trade my spot though, I'm looking forward to this far too much.

This has been an interesting thread. The main intent that the OP attempts to accomplish unfortunately is something that is out of his hands.
Pasted directly from the 818 pre-order form:
Note: Factory Five Racing will assign a production date to your order at our discretion with dates beginning in June 2013.
In addition, from the "I AGREE" section:
I understand that this deposit is to reserve my production space and is non-transferable and non-refundable.
The notation was put into the webform to prevent this type of activity from happening. Therefore, the idea to trading spots with each other is moot.
Public trading of spots is against the meaning and intent of the signup list and the terms you agreed to when you made your deposit. To reiterate, trading up in line goes against the intent and spirit of the signup/deposit form.
FFR has reserved the right to set the manufacture/shipping order and either publicly or privately trading spots in line will not have any impact on the shipping order that FFR decides on.

Touched a nerve I guess. Do you really think that the appropriate response is: "Since you suggested that you would like some token compensation for switching dates we are not going to help you with your build." This is the spirit of the "community" that you are referring to?

I've said it before, and I'll say it again.
The single hardest facet of the 818s long term success is not on FFRs shoulders. It's on ours. The "blending" of the 'old school FFR/Cobra/Hotrod types and the (typically) younger import types.
Come to think of it, seeing as I'm not really interested in the actual 818 anymore, I find the dichotomy one of the reasons I still read/post. Well, that and the Subaru guys tend to confuse some of the non-Subaru guys with too much info at a time.

Kevin,
I won't speak for RM, but know that his statement was in response to yours....I can also say for 100% certainly that ANY of the ROADSTER, 33, COUPE, GTM,SPYDER folks would help without question...but the spirit of the community, is such, that your "offer" wouldn't have been made in the first place...The FFR community, IS, different than any of the other ones I have seen... I needed a windshield ($600 from FFR) for my Cobra and I guy ( I never met)in Atlanta offered his extra one for FREE if I would pick it up....I had another vendor take parts of his own cobra and give them to me, on my word, that I would return the parts back to him when the ones I ordered came in.... we've had guys who are not expected to live to see their projects finished (due to illness), who feel like they have to sell and never get to realize their dream of driving a cobra, only to have 12 people (who they had never met) show up at their house and finish the car in a weekend/week... this is why, at least for me, is why "I" reacted the way I did... I am all about making a buck as well...and it's easy for me to say since I am #1 on the list (whatever that means), and if it weren't for the fact that I was doing a family (brother/brother) build and am flying him down...I would have probably swapped dates (if it was even possible)...shoot I could get hit by a truck tomorrow and everybody would move up (don't get any ideas:D))... Anyway take a breath, check out some of the other forums as I suggested, and you may come to the same conclusion (maybe not) that your "offer" does kinda seem outside the "spirit" of the community that you are joining...not the best first impression is all.... either way...good luck and best wishes.

Well said Erik, I totally feel the same way. It is true that this community is a brotherhood, and I am thankful to have the opportunity to be part of it all. I actually helped build a cobra for someone that got in a car accident and was off there feet for some time. It was a group effort and we got it done it great time and it looks great. I will get some pics up when I can find them. This same team, friends now, are part of my build and only phone calls away. The person I helped, has helped me so much already it is staggering. All was done for the love of the hobby and of the brotherhood. I never got paid for that, I never wanted to, it was fun and I learned even more.

How about we trade for your birthday, but that means you visit my garage for a few weekends to help with my build? Sounds like a fair trade to me.
