Literally saving my pennies for a deposit! Setup a monthly savings account and restoring a 69 firebird which I will sell in two years to pay for the coupe

I've always heard, "take care of the pennies and the dollars take care of themselves". Maybe you've got something there. Good luck.

You know, you may want to check some of those pennies for ones that might be collectible. You may find you have something rather valuable before you take them to the bank or coinstar machine!! Might be a good investment in time...
In any case, good luck in your savings. I too have been saving, and hope the day arrives sooner rather than later! May the pennies come rolling in super fast!!

Steve

When I used to have a steady job I used to pay for things like a burger, candy bar etc. with bills and not use any of the coins, put them in a coffee can, once the can was full I would sort them put them in the paper wraps and go to the bank. On average about every 3 to 4 months the can was full, and just in quarters alone I would have anywhere from about $30 to $50.
Just don't use any coins for buying anything, just use bills. Like I said when I had a steady job, I always did this, been doing it since I got out of high school in the late '70s.
Tell ya, it really comes in handy at times :)

YES! I mentioned something like this in my Blog site - Use CoinStar, get gift certificates, since they give you 100 percent of the loose change, and no fees! See "Expanding My Tool Collection"

I do the same thing as Vman only I put it in a plastic water bottle, last time I took it to the bank it was $1200 :-) That took less then two years. You don't even have to roll it anymore the back will give you heavy duty plastic bags. I had to use two because the coins weighed 70 lbs. No pennies, I still have 40 lbs of those! :-)

I have a coin jar in my dresser and empty all of my changes into it every night. Every once in a while I stuff a $5 or $10 in there to really stoke the fire! :D

You are right. We have a gallon bottle we use for a bank and my wife always says you can tell how good times are ny the amount of silver you can see in it. If you see mostly copper someone has been raiding it.

Timely post. I don't like to have loose change in my pocket so I drop it into a 2 gallon bucket in the mudroom when I come in or into a pewter dish on my dresser. Every couple of years I haul it off to the bank. Last week the dish was overflowing so I poured it into the bucket and took it in. Bucket was about half full so lets call it a gallon worth of change...$353 (plus assorted nuts, bolts, wire connectors, screws and nails) :)

I've been saving for 8 or 9 years now. I'm less than 10k away from my 44k goal. Once I had 10k saved I started putting money into a couple mutual funds so my money will make more money. I also track my progress using mint.com. It takes patients but it'll happen if you really want it too. I'm hoping for a good sale from FFR. Then maybe I'll sell the motorcycle, empty the 5 gallon coin jar, and pull the trigger on the purchase sooner rather than later.
