My '33 Hot Rod(#284) has had a very strong smell of gas inside the car when being driven, and outside the car when standing in the area close to the fuel filler. Gas appears to leak from the overflow line exiting just inside the left rear tire below the filler, particularly after gas has ben added to the tank. The smell is so strong when driving, the car is probably unsafe to drive. I note from other Forum threads this appears to be a problem with other 33 Hot Rods. Can you recommend a fix that won't involve dis-assembling the car? Many thanks

Well, if you can get the waterfall off behind the seats you can get to the filler and see where it's leaking. What concerns me is that there is no overflow line that comes off the filler. It's just the cap to the filler tube to the inlet on the tank. Your filler tube may not be tight enough on the filler/cap assembly or the assembly is having issues or it may even be the sender unit gasket that is bad. I know we all had problems with that lame square gasket and went with a standard o-ring. Don't drive it until you figure it out. Did you build it?

Great looking car. I agree with the above. Remove the waterfall and have a look.

Hi guys what i have done in the past is remove the rings and use seal all that you can get at the hardware store and put it between the seal and the ring it is chemical resistant ...and it dries hard..

BTW, run those NT-05s on the front at 22PSI or the centers will be gone! Good luck.

Thanks to EHansen, Mike and Tony for your input. The FFR fuel tank is being replaced with a Boyd aluminum tank. Hopefully this will be the end of the leaks and the fumes.

See the post above. The Boyd tank is the best fix. But some have made the FFR tank work.

Hi peopleandtech - Please do have a look behind the rear wall there and let me know where you see the leak. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to call 508-291-3443 or email tech@factoryfive.com.

Thanks!
