Hey guys -- really burning along quicker than I thought I would with the coupe. Started a couple weeks back-- Cockpit Alum done, fuel done, front and rear suspension done and engine /tranny in, running brake lines tonight.
I was wondering if anyone could post a top down photo of the gap between the end of the header and the outside of the driver foot-box. I have a ton of room on the inside of the footbox facing the engine, and a lot on the front of the footbox, but where it swings back towards the side, it passes VERY close to the corner on the outside. I have about 1/2 or 3/4" clearance there. I could switch the engine mounts, but my D/S would be barely sitting in the tranny. My thoughts are to either add an extra header flange and longer bolts. or to cut the 2 pipes (after they join into 2) and extend them an inch or so.
My height difference between the 2 sides is about 3/4", -- the D/S being higher --- I leaned the engine over the way as far as I could, so I figure the extension should reduce this 1/8 or perhaps even 1/4".
Before I do all this, I would like to see some other coupes and how much space the average guy should have.

thanks!

1/4" is about right. The photo is the best I have. If you need one from the top I could get you one tomorrow. FYI, you are probably going to have to adjust the engine to level out the headers to fit correctly in the body openings once you get the body on. I would wait on the modifying the headers until you get the body on.

I simply put a notch in the corner of the footbox slightly taller than the height of the pipes. I also have an aluminum shield spaced 1/2" from the footbox at the front and running around the side with hi temp insulation on the inside of the shield, so the pipes were touching the shielded footbox. The notch worked perfect. I just sawed into the corner of the footbox assembly removed the scrap piece and fabbed a new angled piece to cover the hole and riveted it in place. Did the same for the shield. Now there's clearance. Also, that way I didn't have to mess with the headers, which I thought would be harder than notching the footbox.

Excellent- thanks guys -- before posting I had an inkling that there were tight issues on this corner after a few posts i read here and elswhere. I am still lucky that the inside has decent gap. I think i will continue with the build and deal with the prob later , either with a header mod, or a footbox mod.

mod the footbox corner it is alot easier.
I personally like the engine forward mod which allows room everywhere for the headers.
