Any opinions regarding the merits of adding a fan shroud? I plan of running my 347ci on the street.

It's one of those things that can only help things, looks good and isnt a lot of money. No reason to not put one on. If you buy it from mark, also get his shroud cover..nice looking piece that can help with cooling too.

A properly designed and installed shroud will significantly increase your cooling efficiency. Do it now while it's easy, and that's one less hassle you'll have later on.

X3 or 4 or whatever we're up to now. Call mark at Breeze.

Another vote for the shroud from Mark at Breeze. Did the install on my Mk4 build a couple of weeks ago, pictured here. This is the FFR supplied fan on the FFR/AFCO radiator, which mounts up perfectly. I used rivnuts for the fan mounting, so the fan can be removed and replaced without removing the shroud. While not completely necessary, I will have the shroud powder coated along with the balance of the aluminum parts when I'm ready for the next batch.

Apparently some have reported a slight interference requiring the corner of the shroud to be trimmed at the top radiator outlet. This is also mentioned in Mark's instructions. There must be some variation in the AFCO radiators, or it's been changed. As you can see, I have room for the radiator hose next to the shroud.

Rich helped me make mine too. If it weren't for Rich and his fabulous tools, I would have bought the Breeze shroud.
Whatever way you go, install one. Helps cooling, looks good, and easier to install up front.

If you want to go for a low buck solution, a 4.6 Thunderbird fan/shroud from a parts yard fits the FFR radiator almost perfectly. A high amp relay and temp sensor and your golden.

You're design might be a little low on air flow.:p

I hope you didn't make your own toilet seats.

Ditto, sort of, I generally use the donor shroud and cooling fan,but have used Marks, there is no reason to look any further, it is a really nice unit that just works and looks good doing it!

Yes, do the shroud. Generic rules of cooling say, use a shroud, have the edge of the fan blade tips inside it about half an inch, and make sure your fan has about a 2,500 CFM rating. Hence, the 4.6 T-Bird/Lincoln fans popularity - right size, right capacity. And if it's a pick and pull yard, as low as $25.

The fans available at the auto parts houses, like Hayden, aren't big enough, usually maxing out about 1,000 CFM. The 4WD crowd has learned not to convert to them in their V8 equipped rigs, they will overheat when idling on the trail. Strangely enough, adding a pusher fan doesn't mathematically add to the flow, the rate is whichever fan is higher. Blade rpms set the max cfm, adding another won't make both run twice as fast. In reality, they coast along doing half the work. Like teenage boys painting a fence. :)
