Me being a disabled Iraq war vet I want to wish all families holding down the home front merry Christmas. I also want to wish and give the respect they deserve all service people who are sacrificing their time with their families to keep America free. To all of those who served in the past and who are serving welcome home brother and sisters, we love you. When I was in my specialty in the Navy our instructors always told us remeber sailors the only easy day was yesterday.

I think we all do. Perhaps not each and every day because we are human and get caught up in our own lives but we do think of the service people and often.
I was on a trip home from Indianapolis last January and had a short layover in Washington,DC
I walked up to the waiting area and there were 3 Army guys there.
Now I'm 60 but my God they looked so young to me.
I mean like 18-19 years old but the eyes weren't.
We sat and talked and I'll tell you I was never comfortable with the phrase "Thank you for your service"
It doesn't convey how I feel. When I saw those faces I just wanted to reach out and hug them as what they do doesn't have words.
I tried to convey that to them and they understood. The smiles told me that.
We owe so much to all who served this country. Who gave up "normal" lives because they felt a calling to do this.
Yes, we remember.
There's something else I want to say to you personally.
A few years back I happenned on the web page that lists Medal of Honor winners.
One reads that page and over and over you see "Navy Medic"
It reaches inside you when you stop and think how many of these men gave their lives to save anothers.
My best to you and your family this Christmas.

First I want to say thank you for your story. And I agree that Navy medics do the job no one else wants. If it was not for a Navy medic I would not be here today. I was shot and stabbed and crashed my right knee in combat. I now walk with a cane but I can walk at least. Again thank you for your story and merry Christmas.

Your here with us and thats all that matters. I remember my father telling me why he walked with a limp. He'd been one of 4 guys in a jeep in the Phillipines in WW2 and the jeep hit a mine in the road.
The other three men were killed. My father got schrapnel in his eye and in his knee. He worked for 47 years at GE in Lynn,Mass, had 6 kids and left a legacy of just being a "good" guy.
I think thats about all we can ask out of life.

A little story to try and bring you a smile.
I grew up knowing my "Uncle Richard" as a tough guy but I was born in 1952 and didn't know his life before I was around.
Teamsters Business Agent and organizer.
He was 6'2" and a solid 250lbs and had plenty of knock down drag outs in his life.
During WW2 he was in Europe and was captured duing the Battle of the Bulge and spent the rest of the war in an Italian POW camp.
When he came home he was 118lbs.My Grandmother, a heart of gold Irish lady, saw him and wouldn't let him out of the house until she got him to 180lbs.
I remember him telling me that she treated him like he was 6 years old and fed him SIX full meals a day.
He didn't leave the house for just over 3 months.
He joked that he'd just gotten out of one prison and was then in another.:D

Thank you all for all the stories and this keeps their legacy around and will bennifit our younger kids and hope they will take just a little like we have and learn from to be a better person. I needed my life to straighten out and thats why I am so thank full for the Navy. I learned I can do anything I set my mind to and the only thing that stops us is our own mind sets. Enough about me thank you all for the stories and merry Christmas to you all and your familes.
