Any suggestion to wwhere I can get the power steering hoses (both) and w/fittings. I has been very challenging (at least in my area) to get anyone from PEP BOYS, AutoZone, Barn, etc. to understand my situation - they just want to BS with each other and will only work with you if you have a part number/make/model/year - amazing! Anyway, any online vendors with a great trrack record (and website)?
Thankls in advanced.

Walter

I don't know where you are located, but a bit of friendly advise from this diesel mechanic. Talk to your locate repair shops and find out where they buy their parts, if you check a few shops you find out who the go to guys are. You won't find good journayman partsmen at the chain pqart stores. I personally get all bowed up just talking to most of those people.

You can buy a huge variety and combinations of hoses and fittings from summit racing. Just search power steering hoses.

I'll post all of the info later today when I can do it from a real computer instead of this smartphone.

I got mine from Heidts. I called them rather than trying to go through a search of their site.

OK, internet connection is back up so I can now type on an actual keyboard!

Breeze has everything to make your own relatively inexpensively:

---1) Breeze #70516 P/S rack AN adapters $26.00
---1) Breeze #21514 P/S pump AN adapter $13.00
---2) Breeze #21523 Straight AN hose ends $15.00 (at the rack)
---1) Breeze #21524 90 degree AN hose end $17.50 (pressure side of pump)
---4 FT. Breeze #21102 Braided Teflon hose $19.60

Add four more AN hose ends if you are running through a Heidt's valve. Don't be intimidated by the thought of dealing with the braided Teflon hose. Be prepared for a bit of a challenge getting the raw hose end over the nipple on the pump for the low pressure return side but aside from that it's a piece of cake.

Good luck,
Jeff

Hi Jeff,

Did get the Breeze pieces as suggested, and yes it was challenging to get the SS braid over the non-fitting area of the pump - Originally the fittings were a challenge, but got them on with no problem - thanks you and everyone again for the help!

I just did this job a few weeks ago. PS hoses are a little more difficult than standard SS hoses, but not by much. Remember that the functional part of the hose is the plastic inner hose. The SS braid is for looks and protection; it doesn't really have any other function.

- Wrap the hose with 1-2 layers of strapping tape. Electrical tape works good for standard hose. But it's too flexible for the PS hoses.
- Cut the hose in the middle of the tape. I used a air powered cut off wheel.
- if you have in stray SS strands, trim them with a brand new pair of diagonal wire cutters.
- Put the fitting nut over the hose.
- remove the strapping tape. The braid will instantly expand like a mushroom for about 1/8-3/16".
- Use a very small screwdriver to move the braided line away from the plastic hose for a total of about 1/4"
- Press the brass ferrule over the plastic hose, and under the steel braid. Press it against a solid flat surface until the ferrule is even with the end of the plastic hose.
- Put the fitting in a vise, and press the barb into the plastic hose. The tighten the nut.

It takes a bit of force and some work, but it's not overly difficult. I did 6 fittings this way, and none of them leak. Yet.

Thanks...I did what you said and just had to redo one after it sprayed me and everything in the area down.
Right now hoses seem to hold
My problem is the steering
First the car is on the jack stands and now on the ground. I styarted the engine, put fluid into the PS unit and using a 11/16" wrench and just began to turn the steering staft to see if everything worked (hoses held)...the problem, the the steering shaft whipped around throwing the wrench luckily across the room. does the car (tires) need to be on the ground? I made up the hoses so maybe I have them in backward - I have the PS fitting hose going to the larger of the two fittings on the PS rack, while the bare hose hooked up on the PS pump goes to the smaller of the two fittings on the PS rack.

It sounds like you have the lines switched. The big port with the red plug is the return to the reservoir.
