Hello everybody and Car lovers!

-About me; I am Gerrit living in the Netherlands since 58 years
-Profession; I am a automotive engineer worked 25 years for Subaru in narrow cooperati with Subaru Japan for trouble investigation and product improvement Also Type approval testing for EC certification! Since my -CVA (stroke) I am retired and doing still Subaru as hobby!
Daily activities; I am assisting a lot Saker sportcars racing teams. Saker has more or lees the same setup as the 818R but car still has to comply to the cup regulations Since racing is asking more from the engine I rebuild already a lot of engines with newly develloped modifications! Same for the tranmission! Transmissions are often rebuild with other ratio's depending from the track and weather! The last modifications must be ready before racing season start in april. Also the car alraedy completely analized for the suspension in order to find the best gains for camber steering scrub and rollaxis We already have reached a lateral g of 2g (Dry sump is a must!)
I running a small business in trading new and used Subaru parts New Subaru parts are only the OEM subaru parts. The used I am importing from the Japanese market!

Hopefully I can admire the car soon on the west European racetracks

All the best

Welcome,
What dry sum set ups do you use, pumps etc, also do you have a favourite Subaru engine?

Welcome,

The dry-sump I installed was a complete kit from Cosworth USA It was almost plug and play! It has a special plate/sump for the Scavening the oil And the oilpressure comes from the original oilpump During the first testing we had suctionproblems from the oil from the tank to the OEM pump because during hard braking with slicktyres on the track the braking "g" was just to much! After replacing the from the side pod bear the front door to the engine room this problem was solved and no more presure dips occur in the data loging.

-About my favorite engine?

First question is always what will be the purpose of the engine?! Please keep in mind that the original engine is designed for world street use by jongsters and/or grannies and everyone in between and keeping the durability/life time in mind and also the different regulations like emission/noise Not to forget the costprise Standaard parts are just enough to coop with this!!!!!!!!! Therefore a meeting between the customer and me is made before strat building the engine or transmission Customer has to inform me first the fuel quality hee will use and also if it is for sprint- or endurance racing!

As base for the Engine I like to use a STI semi colsed deck housing! The best is the housing from Tommi Makiinnen he is using for the building of the base Group N cars. This cilinderhousing is exclusive used for the Japan market! I have only one in stock here for stress reduction through the normal temperature fluctuation.

Forgedpistons/valves are both depending form the way usage Headbolts are made from toolsteel. The crankshaft must be cross drilled and hardened to coop with the high revs! Valve springs depend from the camshaftshape!

ECU is ofcourse a standalone ECU with logging function

Welcome to the forum. It sounds like there may be an 818 in your future. Don't have a crytsal ball, just guessing.

Do you have any tracks close to where you live?

Good luck,

WEK.

Gerrit,
Do you have any experiance with Subaru EG33 motors in your part of the world? Due to the size and how tough they are plenty of guys are turboing them. They are getting problems.

Tony,

Sorry for the late reply. Here in Western Europe there are no EG33 build with Turbo so far as I know. But I think it must be possible because the Basic design of the EG33 is 1.5 times the EJ22 The cilinderbore is the sam as for the EJ22!
Also the conrods are the same
As for the EJ 22 there are plenty of forged pistonsand conrods available The availability of MLS headgaskets I just checked and Cometic can supply these! So basicly it must be possible with a lot of work making the manifolds applicable for turbo!

greetings

Gerrit

Gerrit,
I don't know if this applies to other Subaru engines but if you remove the plug that covers were they drilled the oil galleriey down to each of the main jurnal you may find that Subaru installed a restrictor plate. My guess is they did it so when you are idling all the bearing get oil. I know that the EG33 has these.
Thinking about your comment re cross drilling crank got me thinking if the other Subaru engines are the same it maybe limiting the oil anyway.
We are using a dry sump pump with higher flow so I plan to run some tests with the restrictors removed. Pump output is twice the standard so they should'nt be needed.
