I am ordering the brackets from North Race Cars, but what axles are needed...does anyone know? Are they the SN95 Axle w/o anti lock brakes? I found a pair at a local junk yard for cheap.

I am turning a fox body rear end over to disc brakes....so I need the axles and the brackets to relocate the calipers.

If you want to keep the stock Foxbody width, then you need Foxbody 5 lug axles. These are typically sourced from a Ranger pickup up or Windstar Van. Only one side will work though. I think its the right but not positive. Your best bet is to just order them from North Race cars at the same time. The SN95 axles do not require richards offset brackets but widen the rear by something like 3/4 per side.

Definitely go with the Forte axles. SN 95's are 1.5 in too wide as Michael said. I was going to have my SN 95 housing cut down, but decided to get a Fox Body housing and 5 lug axles. A lot less hassle. Next build I won't go donor, as I wound up using few parts from the donor and it would have been cheaper to go new or junkyard.

Mike, are you saying if I get your axles then I will not need any brackets for the calipers? I think for North Race Cars, I need to buy the axles and brackets...the brackets move the caliper back to fit over the rotor.

Hi SStrong - did you have to also get these brackets? Or were you able to just get fox length axles? Just trying to figure this out...I appreciate the help and advice!!!

Welcome Austin,
I converted my SN95 rearend to Fox length axles that I bought from Richard/North Racecars. I also bought Richard's brackets to bring the calipers in line with the rotors. Question: What rotor are you using on your rear end? Since you are buying brackets you have a choice/option to run larger rotors than the stock GT ones and Richard has different brackets to move the calipers out further radially. There are a number of posts about the brake bias in these cars and the weight distribution being better, almost 50/50 front to rear. I am using the 11.65" rotor from the Cobra (vented) and went with Richards brackets that support them. It's up to you but not a bad idea to go with larger rotors in the rear. Bill

That really doenst make sense, as the SN 95 housing is the same width as the Fox housing. Its the axles that are longer.

I bought mine from late model restorations before I knew about the forum and the vendors here. Paid more than Fortes is charging for them. Oh well, live and learn.
You will need a set of caliper brackets that move the calipers in to match the axle width. I agree with Bill. Make your decisions about rotor type before ordering the brackets.

No matter where you source Fox width axle shafts offset caliper brackets will be necessary to match up with them.

That is true up through 1998 Rich. After that the housings (and shafts) are wider.

To add to the above suggestions. Once you go to discs on the rear, assuming you stay w/ Ford parts, there are two choices. Mustang GT or Mustang Cobra. The calipers are actually the same for both. The Cobra rotors are approximately one inch larger in diameter and are vented so they are thicker. The brackets need to be matched to the rotors so the calipers are positioned to match the diameter. The thickness difference is taken care of w/ thinner pads to match the thicker rotor. For instance the hawk pads part numbers end in a three digit number which is the thickness of the lining material. The first 2/3 of the number is the same for both GT and Cobra pads.

Okay....my brother is the car guy...I'm the money guy...I'll ask him when I see him...and thanks for all off your responses. I am going with stock mustang gt rotors and calipers. So I am guessing that I need to just buy the axle and bracket kit for Richard at northracecar...I've talked to him..great guy. Or get axles from fortes but ill still need the brackets. Am I correct about this??

I was aware of that, guess I was just thinking the SN95 label as referring to '94-95' model years.

SN95 Chassis designation covers all 1994-2004 Mustangs.
