Just thought it would be fun to see what other rides everyone else has, and to see if anyone is planning on replacing one of there current cars with the 818.

Post pics of them too if you have them, never know it might inspire some cool ideas for the 818.

My Toys,

1992 Saleen Mustang Factory Supercharged Car (doing a full stock restoration on this car)
1998 Mustang Cobra Convertible (Light mods, Fun summer driver)
1997 Saleen Mustang Cobra (All Stock)
1987 Buick Grand National (Lots of Mods, building a 600rwhp setup for it now)
A few 914 Porsche Projects (from mild to wild I have a bunch of them)
1978 Lotus Esprit (stock, currently repainting the car)
2006 Ford GT (currently stock, but mods are coming soon)
2004 Lamborghini Gallardo (Light mods, Straight Pipe Exhaust and Custom Wheels, My track Day car)

The 818 will be a fun weekend/summer car, with the occasional trackday thrown in, really looking forward to building and driving it!!

Miata(s) 1991, 1990 w 1994 drivetrain & hardtop, 1999
1991 BMW325IC
1969 Saab Sonett V4, frame off, 99% done, soon for sale

Talk toys, you really need to include bikes

1975 RD350B (3) two stroke adrenaline rush
1997 CBR600
1998 VFR800 (for Sale)

You could say I have a full house!

EDIT: I also have a custom electric reverse trike... All aluminum .050 body work ongoing. I removed the fiberglass body fabricated with my son as his HS senior project! 1100 lbs even with 7, 12v 185 AH lead acid batteries... 40-45 miles on a charge, 84 volts, 425amps max... I have a generator or increased distance. not sure if it will be a trailer or onboard...

I love to drive something different every day!

the 818 will add to my autocross fun... I also autocross a Rotax RM1 DD2 two speed kart

* I had the trike's electric drivetrain in it for a year... with the seperatly excited electric motor and controller I call it Frankenstein... It was a RM1SepEx hense my screen name. Dave and the Factory 5 crew have several at the sho that they use to blow off steam!

I sold a 78 Vette I did a 5 year resto-rod on for money to do my 818. Currently have a Can Am RTS for fun.

I've recently downsized, but I still retain:

3 First generataion factory turbo Legacies. Two '93s and a '91. One for daily driving, one for Rallycross and another for an as-of-yet undetermined project.
'72 MG Midget under restomodification.
'87 Dodge Raider, Converted to a Starion turbo drivetrain.
'06 Land Rover LR3, to satify my need to 'get away' every now and again.

I am likely not on the 818 path anymore, but it would not replace any of them.

One of my 'secrets'....Don't even own a car that's not a Hobby Car! As long as you have enough Hobby Cars, one is always ready to be a Daily driver. And it's always fun to keep the guys at work guessing as to what's parked in my spot tomorrow.

I do not have a current toy car, but if we are including bikes, I have a non-stock '08 ZX-10R. The 818 will not replace it. I am planning my 818 to be my daily driver, which will relegate my truck to family & towing duty only. (yeah!)

I have a 1995 Nissan 240SX with 385whp (SR20DET). I was planning on replacing it with the 818S, but looking into the weak link of the Subie transmission, I might have to keep the 240SX a while. I still have to think about it more, to see how to make the 818S faster than the 240SX without destroying the transmission.

My (now dead) 06 WRX was a DD toy that did several years as an ESP autocross car.
Current toy is a 1986 Red Devil F440 that I machine parts for and compete in FM.

The 818 is replacing the 06 WRX, or rather, the 06 WRX is becoming an 818.

No (but if someone wants to make me an offer they can have it and I'll build another one :))

I still have to think about it more, to see how to make the 818S faster than the 240SX without destroying the transmission.

Curb weight of a 1995 240SX is listed as somewhere between 2700 and 2900 pounds. Using 2700, that's approximately 7 pounds per wheel HP. To achieve the same ratio, the 818 needs only 257 wheel HP. Assuming a 15% drivetrain loss, that's 302 crank HP. Not only is that fairly easy to achieve, that's right at the top of the supposed "safe zone" for the transmission. Of course, you get the benefit of having a lighter weight car, and probably better handling car (I have driven a 240SX so I know they can handle very well with the right set up). And of course, a far better looking one! (no knock against the 240SX - it's just not much of a looker...).

All that said, I think those who claim it's more about driving habits than all out HP are probably correct. So if you drive well, you likely have little to worry about! :)

Warmed over 2001 Acura Integra Type R.
2011 Mazda 2 DD with Bilstein coilover suspension, massive sway bars, and sticky tires.

The Type R will probably go when the 818 hits the road.

74 Corvette Not fully finished but close. It is redone to be a mountain racer kind of car, what ever that is.
05 Legacy GT. This car is a blast to drive.

Once I see where the Targa 818 is, I will decide which car to get rid of (If any)

A few years ago I came to the realization that I just couldn't drive all the cars I had and was running out of places to park them. I don't own anything for show and drive everything like I stole it so three is probably going to be my limit for the next couple of years.

Sold within the past 5 years:
1991 RX-7 Convertible
1987 RX-7 Turbo II
1989 240SX coupe with RB25DET swap and full race suspension.
1991 240SX hatch (couldn't find a coupe at the time I wanted to do the engine swap so started with this one)
2002 MX-5
2004 Mazdapseed MX-5 (~325 to the wheels and scared the hell out of anyone I let drive it)
1987 AE86
1997 Nissan Hardbody Truck
2002 Nissan Frontier

Today:
1995 Nissan Skyline GTR VSpec (500hp to the wheels, the daily driver, and yes it is one of the legal ones)
1991 GMC Syclone (Great for taking out the trash, faster than a Camaro SS, and cheaper than a new civic)

The 818S is really to replace the Mazdaspeed MX-5. I love AWD Turbo vehicles, but I have always wanted to build a kit car and topless-turbo-RWD seems like the perfect combination.

http://www.ppgearbox.com.au/page.asp?categoryid=14

for most people (not including me lol) they wont need anything more than a stock gearbox a couple good alternatives would be getting a set of version 6 STI RA gears had em in my SM built 03 wrx held up very well or what im contempating is running an 05+ legacy gt transmission gears are much thicker as well as longer in 1st and 2nd and possibly 3rd and i believe tranny is the same dimention as the wrx

That was the deal with the wife, I can buy whatever I want (within reason) so long as it does not have wings or rotor blades. I figured out not to long ago that, had I purchase the toys new it would have cost me over $625,000 but when I added up what I paid verses the cost when these items were new, I saved a little less then $400,000. I enjoy toys but what I enjoy more is getting them for less then they are worth so when I am done with them, not only do I get all my money back, I have a good shot at making a profit. I am a frugle to a point that I deserve to create a new word.

Good to see a R33 GTR owner on the site. Are you in Canada? How did you get past the EPA/DOT crackdown? I worked for Nissan (Tech Center) and we had the first R34 GTR V-Spec in the country. I had open access to the keys for 9 months to "evaluate". I spent many miles on and off track with that car. Even drove from Phoenix to SEMA in a different R34 GTR for the 2000 SEMA show. We sadly had to crush both cars, due to import laws.

I think the whole crushing cars thing is/was stupid. I understand laws were broken (that may not make sense in the first place) to to crush a car to prove a point is....well, pointless IMO. Come to Indiana where there are no inspections and you'll see some true piles of crap, cars and trucks with no cats, and lots more that is worse than having an R34 (or any GTR really).

Its my understanding that the feds rescinded the motorex r33 exemptions. They can be state legal and registered but they can still be confiscated and crushed.

I have no pure 'toys' in the garage anymore, since I got rid of my motorcycle after an accident (4 broken vertebrae and had to delay my wedding 6 months). Friends refer to my 350Z as my toy, but it's my daily driver and is actually a great 2-person road-trip vehicle, taken it to Vegas, AZ, and up the CA coast many times. I'll be selling it to make room/funds for the 818. I plan to commute in the 818 as often as possible, and will take over my wife's A4 Avant Quattro as a foul-weather option since she wants to get a 135i.

The crushing of cars actually just comes down to money (like most things). At the end of the 1 year, you can send them back to their host country, or crush them. Since they were pre-production vehicles, it was cheaper to just crush them in the USA, than to send them to Japan to eventually crush them there. At least for pre-production vehicles, companies do not want to take the liability risk of having them continue to be used. They also count in the accounting books, and if they are crushed, you can take them off the books.

I've got a few... plan on using the 818S for mixed daily use (fair weather in Seattle = June through September).

Currently have...

1998' Subaru Forester
Full 06' STI conversion (fully built STI motor, 6spd trans, Coilovers, brembo brakes, dash conversion, custom Audi aviator grey paint, custom ITB intake manifold, custom twin scroll low mount header with Holset HX35/40 turbo, custom high/front mount intercooler, radiator re-located in rear spare tire well) Did all the custom work and motor build at the same time and cant wait to get it on the dyno. Previously with VF39, fmic and other supporting mods on stock sti block it made 260whp and 302tq at the wheels on a VERY conservative reading mustang dyno. Should be over 450WHP once finished up...

The day after paint, one hour before blowing the motor...

It has the re-enforced seat belt mount and bmw rear side markers. At one point it was actually CA emissions legal. It has upgraded 2860R turbos, AEM, 720 injectors, cams, 4 inch titanium veilside exhaust. My first trip to the strip I destroyed a heavily modified GT500, but was beaten by my buddies modified R35 GTR. I will up the boost after the holidays to even the playing field.

I currently have a
02 Z06 11.60 intake only. clutch went at the track the first time i took it with a 100 shot, should go 10.70 this spring with the new clutch.
03 wrx, just bought as a project, heads have to go out for new valves, timing belt went.
this wrx wont be used for a donor. its gonna be a mild rally car
99 saturn wagon, RHD, converted to 5 spd, just a fun little car.

the Z will probably get sold in order to fund the 818. i have enough parts to fund half the car laying around in the garage. if i can sell enough i might try to keep the vette, as i love that car.

does anyone know how the payment/s for the 818 work. is it all going to be expected upon shipment/pickup, or will they require a percentage sometime next year?

does anyone know how the payment/s for the 818 work. is it all going to be expected upon shipment/pickup, or will they require a percentage sometime next year?

FFR's usual policy is $1,000 after finalizing the order to get it slated for production then the balance due before shipping or pickup. I would expect they will use the same policy with the 818 and assume that our pre-production deposit will be applied to either the initial or final payment.

Had a couple 05 STIs, Jeep Wranlger Rubicon, 03 Cobra Mustang, GT mustang, 94 Miata, a couple liter bikes and a dual sport. They are all gone now, and I daily drive an F150. I doubt I'll be in the market for an 818 for a few years, but if I built one it would not be a daily.

I have a serious problem as I have eyes for only one car type and its a Subaru (like the GTM as well),

Daily drive and off road car is a 1995 Subaru SVX with 670,000 kilometers on the clock (heavy moods for dirt and dune driving).
1992 SVX peal for Targa road racing 110,000k
1992 SVX red with black roof being built up with a mid engine and a STI 6 speed,

Wife drives 1992 SVX black roof red body.
Daughter 1993 SVX black.

Have 9 spare engines & a engine Dyno set up for EG33 to develop dry sumps, high rev, individual throttle bodies and heaps of other goodies for the engine.

First car was a Subaru GSR 1400 back in 1993.

Current project is installing a 2 post scissor lift in the garage. Should be in next weekend...
http://www.awender.com/sale/pictures/gaerage.jpg

Once that is done I'll start doing a little work on my current toy/project. Not planning on finishing this one before the 818, but we will see...

Sold my toy truck a couple years back, and sold my audi a4 to my son. Last summer I sold the boat. We are down to the daily drivers, an 03 subaru forester and a toy 4 runner. Currently looking for a truck and saving for an 818.

'85 vmax
'86 944 chumpcar

I will either get rid of the vmax or build a bec with it. 818 would also potentially replace the 944 if I don't do the bec project.

I must be poor lol.

If you constitute poor I must be destitute lol.

'85 CRX Si - 256k & the DD, not the fastest off the line but it's like driving a go kart. After 7 years of ownership & modding, she's up to 48 mpg. Average.
'89 CRX HF - D15Z1 swap from a Civic VX, the weekend car & first swap. Teins & Konis, 60 mpg on a good day.
'97 Civic Hatch - D16y5 swap from a Civic HX, the latest (almost done!) project & "prettiest" says the girlfriend. Teins, Konis, carbon hood, 8 pt cage (leftover from K-powered track days) possibly new DD one day? XX mpg?

Notable Solds:

'81 Datsun 280zx - Fun car I learned a lot from. Too rusty to keep. Sold for tuition.
'72 Datsun 240z - Pretty little thing. Sad about the 3 speed auto. Sold for tuition.

I trend towards lightweight, reliable, modified for high fuel economy cars with desirable bang-for-your-buck handling. The only thing I'm missing is brutal acceleration. Enter 818. I'm especially interested in the TDI version as this will satisfy my MPG quota while still being quick enough for smiles on my daily commute. If the (eventual) build goes well, I won't need any other car. I'll have speed, handling, reliability, & MPG all in one. We'll see...I'll wait til a few of you eager early birds build a few & I'll go from there.

Um, Home Depot? You'll have all those things, but won't have much cargo capacity. I would keep one of the Hondahs.

Between the GF's 2010 Civic & a few friends with large & small trucks I can borrow for a 6-pack in return, I'd survive a lack of cargo. That being said, I'd be betraying myself if I didn't have some kind of back-up ride, I'm a firm believer in Murphy's Law when driving/building cars.

'05 Mitsubishi Evo - bought new and I'll keep it till I die, recently restored to stock to serve as my DD and baby hauler (two baby seats in back) as well as autocross car competing in road tire class.
'06 STI - now my son's DD and my rival in autocross
'02 WRX - my DD before I took the go-fast parts off the Evo, now dismantled and ready to become an 818
'96 Impreza wagon - our budget rallycross toy and junk hauler
'06 Dodge Caravan for family road trips and spousal DD

Things I sold to keep the peace as I prepare to build my 818 this summer

'74 VW Superbeetle - 90% restored and a load of fun to drive with the peddle mashed to the floor
'84 Fiat X-19 - a poor man's 914
'09 Royal Enfield Bullet 500
'00 Dnepr with side car - same as the Ural, except lower quality but much rarer and cooler, you have to buy them in parts and assemble as a kit in order to be legal

Just have a few:

2011 Camaro SS w/ full Pfadt race suspension: 560 rwhp
2001 Miata w/480 hp LS 3
FFR 3.1 Roadster (420 bhp 347 stroker)

The 818 (which is an R) will be added to this list as a track day/club racer. 818 was ready on Dec 4, but Stewart had truck problems and I expect to get it first half of Jan.

I have a ton of radio control toys. It started with RC, then the wife increased my allowance. I have always wanted to build an FF Roadster, but the 818 looks so cool. Also seems to be a little more doable budget wise.

2003 WRX, lightly modded, former track car. Now serves as my daily driver.

1999 Miata, used as the track toy for the last few years. Sold it a few months ago before moving from AL to CO. I planned on selling it right before the 818 showed up, but it didn't make sense to move it across the country just to have it sit through the winter and sell it in the spring. Plus it doesn't seem like there's a huge demand for Miatas in Colorado Springs.

The 818 will be the new track toy and fun weekend car.

2010 BMW 135i convertible (untouched)

'93 Red Wrangler - updated and some light mods

1 yr ago I sold my 2002 Skoda Octavia 1.8T, heavily modified, head w/ cams, springs, rods, balanced to 9500 RPM, GT3071R, nitrous, meth. Was setup for 500hp w/ 300 ft lbs (to not break the tranny).

The 818 will replace my 135i as a daily driver. My wife will replace the merc, and I'll replace the wrangler with something where the twins will fit.

'13 Outback (wife's)

I bought the '04 with the intention to rolling 'restore' and to gain some mechanical experience prior to building my 818, but I've fallen in love with the damn thing. Not sure what I'm going to do for a donor now. Maybe buy a wreck like everyone else.

I wonder if an 818 and a 180k mile Blobeye would be reliable enough... to replace the '13.

I have downsized over the last couple of years to get ready to retire.
Currently have the MKII roadster and an F150 with the Coyote engine.

Sold in the last year - 07 Corvette convertible, 04 wrangler, and F250 with the 7.3 liter diesel.
I will be looking to add another 2 seat convertible for more of a daily driver. The weather keeps me out of the Cobra and I need another toy for cold rainy weather or the extreme Georgia heat. Maybe a Z4, Boxster or Miata.

First post, hello everyone. Placed my order today for a 818r! It will be a track car, as I have enough street cars, so I'm not going to mess with a donor and will instead build it as I go. But back to the post's topic I restore/rebuild exotics as a hobby. This is my toy list:

2003 Ferrari 360
1998 Ferrari 456
2005 Maserati Gransport
2004 Dodge Viper (supercharged)
2004 Corvette Z06 (twin turbo)
2004 Porsche 996TT
1984 Porsche 911 Cabriolet

Now I'm ready for a dedicated track car! Power to weight ratio a built 818 will be hard to beat!

Well i'll lower the bar, Currently I've got

1969 Australian Ford Falcon XY Ute (Rebuilt from rusty shell). Soon to be Daily Driver.
1970 Australian Ford Falcon XY Ute (Written of due to Idiot pulling out in front of me at a stop sign).
1973 Australian Ford Fairmont XA Coupe (Being rebuilt this year).
1991 Suzuki RGV250M.
1996 Suzuki RGV250R (In pieces Should be rebuilt this year).

Current Daily Drive is a Nissan Navara Ute and wifes is a 2003 Mazda 323.
Wife said yes to GTM and 818 then later put a condition that all vehicles we have to be licenced and drivable and I have to get rid of two cars, so the list will be down two utes by mid year, then I'll order the kit and sort the parts out while waiting for it to arrive. I wont miss the nissan.

I'm using up all my Social Security money.:o
I do have a pure track STI that will be on the block for sale as soon as I get the 818R on the track. Till then I will juggle track days and kit building. My 550 hp capable "Alpha motor" I'm building will now be detuned and go into the 818R.
Prior rides of note: 2002 M3, 1993 RX-7 R1, restored 1964 Nova SS street car with 400 hp and disc brakes. Everything but planes have been past toys. I like sailing my catamaran.

I have a couple of "toys" that I will be keeping in addition to the 818s scheduled for march delivery. Since the family is no longer racing super latemodels competitively every week I am looking forward to the 818 project. I also have a blue bugeye 02 WRX that I picked up for the build, but is in great condition and may not tear it apart, still making up my mind on this one.
