My initial go-kart a couple weeks ago was without power steering hooked up and with an annoying belt squeal from the temporary idler pulley.
With a couple small challenges this week, I was able to install the new pulley bracket, pump, billet pulley (don't bother trying to install without "THE Tool", can be loaned from auto parts store), new belt, new adapter fittings, AN fittings, and high pressure hose. I watched a couple YouTube videos on assembling Braided Stainless Steel lines. Not my favorite thing to do and I did mess up the practice piece, but got both hoses and all AN fittings assembled and installed.

After backing it into the garage without power steering on my last go-kart, then taking it for a couple laps around the neighborhood tonight and backing it in, I must say it's like driving any one of my Daily Drivers. Very Nice, highly recommend it if you're thinking about it.

Oh, and the new belt and PS pump got rid of the annoying squeal. :cool:

A couple gratuitous photos :D

MPTech,

I know exactly how you feel. This was one of the more equivical decisions in my build but unlike you,I came to the realization that PS was the only way to go after many threads about it. So every go kart outing has been amazing as far as handling and manuveuring. It glides around the corners and no effort on the slow turns and reverse.

BTW, nice bling. I got the Forte mount but not a pretty pulley like yours. Also, nice job on the hoses. Glad you are enjoying your PS.

Note: I not only borrowed the tool at the auto parts store but the strong arm of the guy behind the desk. I think I saw a vein just about pop on his forehead before the OEM pulley released. I think I would have had to put a 3 ft breaker bar on it.

Good luck, WEK.:cool::cool:

It's a specialized power steering pulley puller / installer.
I borrowed it from O'Reily's with their tool loaner program, they charge a minor deposit (I think it was around $40), they refund when you return it.

They came from CFR Performance, Under "Engine Dress-up / Pulleys", the brackets are under "Power Steering". They come in Chrome, Gold, Machined, Blue, Black, and Polished.

Good job. Have you cut the pressure spring in the pump to reduce assist? Have you looked at increasing the caster? Doing both of these will really dial in the feel and make the car track very well on the highway.
