With reference to the "a-frame" trans mount supplied with the kit, should the "lip" at the front end of the mount be ...

pointed up (towards the car/chassis) or,

down (toward the road)?

Does it matter - and if so, why?

Thanks

Lynn

Almost 80 "looks" as of this morning - and no responses/opinions?

Anybody got any thoughts?

For clarity - here's a couple of pictures of what I'm talking about ...

lip up ...
13750

lip down ...
13751

Don't make me go to the "other" Forum .... :)

Thanks

Lynn

My Mk3 is in storage for the winter :( so can't look in person. But did find this picture. Looks like I installed it lip down.

Looked through the Mk4 manual. A little hard to tell from the pictures there, but it looks like they installed it lip down as well. But not positive and doesn't specifically say so. There is this statement: "Jack the transmission up and mount the a-frame underneath it. Normally this mounts above the frame tabs but can be mounted underneath if extra clearance is needed." I think this is referring to the small tabs toward the front, but I think the message also is mount the frame where it fits best for your application. HTH

Mine is installed with the lip down, so that the welded plate is on top. If it was installed with the plate in the lower position, there would be a huge gap to reach the trans mount. Jim

I installed mine around the beginning of the year and remember having to flip it over because it interfered with my tailshaft (I'm running a T5 with the s-10 midshift mod).
I don't know if other trannies will have this issue. I think I mounted the back of the brace on top of the chassis tab and the front of the brace on the bottom of the chassis tabs, but I'd have to check tonite to confirm.

Install lip down with bolt heads on top, nuts on bottom. Just in case someday the nuts come loose or fall off, atleast the bolt will be in place

I agree with "down." Just checked my Mk4; still building. Even with both front and rear tabs in the down position, my TKO 600 (with mounting tabs trimmed flush) just barely (about 1/16") clears the rear cross member. Will probably have to add at least 1/4" spacer just to make sure it doesn't hit the bar if I hit significant bump. [And maybe more to get the right pinion angle.]

Looks like "Down" it is.

Many thanks

Where do you find the mount to connect the A-frame to the Trans? Not in the kit... so where can I find it? Not on the donor either.

I bought the trans mount from Mike Forte, but be specific abought what you need.
I told him I had a T5 with an S10 tailshaft (for the mid-shift), but he accidently sent me a T5 mount.
