I'm on the preorder list for an 818S, and am also a participant in AJW Performance's Beta Donor Program, and have purchased an NA donor pallet. I'm trying to get a leg up on planning my relatively mild engine modifications. Specifically, I'm addressing exhaust system issues. It is my understanding that there have been some design issues at FFR relative to providing an exhaust system for those intent on using NA components. Presumably, FFR will provide as part of the kit exhaust components from the stock manifolds and connector back, or maybe cat-back.

I'm planning on utilizing equal-length headers (specifically, one of Techworks Engineering's products). Their header products terminate at locations consistent with the stock layout. Is there anything in the engine compartment layout that would make using an equal-length header problematic?

Do you know yet what the diameter of the header-back or cat-back exhaust system for the NA application will be? Knowing this will allow me to choose between 2.25 inch and 2.5 inch header collector sizing.

Any help you can give me in this regard will be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

I don't mean to provide a generic answer here, but it's a little too early to tell with certainty. One principle I'd say applies, though, is that it's generally a good bet to plan on using anything that lines up with the stock output locations like you mentioned. Also, just to provide an example, our Mk4 Roadster and '33 Hot Rod work well with stock-style shorty headers on Small Block Fords or the modular Ford motors, but they often have clearance issues with equal length shorty headers. This isn't to say for sure that the same will apply to the 818, but it does show it's something to watch out for.

Also on the exhaust sizing, we'll have to wait to confirm. You're on the preorder list, so you'll get the full extent of news and updates by periodic emails.

thanks!
