I have a MK4 and I'm putting in a 351w block bored to 427 w/ 538hp with a mechanical fuel pump for a Holley double pumper. It was recommended by the Engine Factory to use a 3/8 fuel line. Do I need to change out the tank pickup and fuel filter that comes with the complete kit to a 3/8 also?

I have no idea what comes w/ the kit, but you can only flow as much as the tightest connection. So if you need 3/8'' fuel line, the pump inlet/outlet needs to be at least that size.

Short answer -- yes. Going through the same thing right now with my Mk4 build. Changing to 3/8 fuel lines. The FFR parts are all 5/16. Mark at Breeze sells a nice 3/8 fuel pickup for carb setups: http://www.breezeautomotive.com/details.php?prod_id=300

I have the Breeze pick-up on my carb'd 347 and it is great. Fit perfect out of the box, but make sure that you follow the instructions to ensure that it doesn't bottom-out in the tank and restrict fuel flow.

If any part of the fuel system uses flexible rubber lined hose, please remember to use only hose that meets SAE J30R14T2. It's not a emissions resistant hose as much as an alcohol and additive resistant hose. Unfortunately, we don't get to use retro gas any more.

Just finished changing out lines intended for fuel injection with teflon-lined lines. See this article about new fuel lines.
