My input is that I'm not sure what you're talking about :). Please expand a bit. What's an asm and a 331.

I haven't driven one with either gear, but I can't imagine there really being much difference. The car is light enough that you'll still get plenty of acceleration with the 3.31 gears if you can keep from spinning the tires, and it'll give you slightly better mileage to boot.
I've got the 3.55 gears in my '07 Mustang, and I've driven a car with the 3.31's, but not enough to really tell you what difference there is day to day.
I think those ratios are really to close to see much of a difference though. Comparing the 3.31 to a 4.10 would be more of a difference and much more noticeable, both in tire spin and in gas mileage. Depends on which you want to buy more often I guess, tires or gas. :)

You will see some difference in top end. If you want to go fast, go with 331. The difference in acceleration will be negligable, so unless you're racing either one will do. 331's will give better gas mileage if that's a consideration.

You really aren't giving enough information about your total setup for anyone to be able to give you any advice.
There are a lot of factors that help to decide what rear gear ratio is right for you.
Engine, what sort of power curve does it have? Camshaft? Power adders? Transmission, standard or auto? If auto, have you already picked a torque converter, that would be a mistake. What ratio is the overdrive? Tire diameter? And here is what might be the most important question. How do you intend to use the HR?

yes alot to think about i have not decided on motor yet im thinking a 302 with 350 hp and monster aod transmission.i do know i will buy a turn key motor.just have not decided yet .i would like great low end but i want good gas milage to
For my HR I have a bored and stroked 302, 349. It produces 446HP @ 5900 rpm and 448 lb-ft @ 4300 rpm. AFR 185 heads, cam is 224*/232* @.050 .556" .565", 9.7:1 compression, RPM Air Gap, EFI.
If you want great low end torque, stroke it. Keep in mind that the AOD will sap a lot more power than a standard trans.
I have a built AOD in my HR. Torque converter has a 26-3000 rpm stall. The OD gear is .067. Tire diameter is 26". The trans will shift to OD between 35-40 mph when cruising with a light throttle. I have 3.73 gears and consider it perfect. 3.31 gears might not be the ideal choice when running the AOD.
Why Monster? Do a Google... My AOD was first built by TCI. It had to be fixed by a local performance trans shop (Level 10, they are about an hour or two from you) after 300 miles. DO NOT BUY A TRANS FROM TCI!! It really isn't fun pulling the trans out of a completed HR!
Do you have your HR or are you still in the planning phase?
