I go to the website mashable.com a lot and while reading the latest news stories today, I saw this one with a cool video of a road trip (http://mashable.com/2012/11/19/route-66-video/) along Route 66. It's a fun time-lapse video and thought you all might enjoy it.

Way cool. I'm in the process of planning one of those trips. Not sure if it'll be next summer or later, but this video sure helped inspire me to push forward!

Mater is parked in Riverton, KS, not far from Baxter Springs, which has the white arch bridge. Watch it carefully in Holbrook, AZ, the WigWam Motel is not on the I40 bypass thru town. We missed them.

Most of the road past OKC is bypassed but paralleled by I40. You see bits and pieces for miles, and jumping off the I-state means seeing some abandoned small towns, not the bustling road stops that used to exist. Don't take in too many, visit the Petrified Forest, and enjoy the landscape, which is what it's really about.

And btw, there are exactly 1,241 windmills in Texas along I40. Really. We counted. :)

I grew up 1/2 mile north of 66 (called Amarillo Blvd. then). Crossed it every day in junior high school, wrong side of the tracks. I40 is several miles south of the original route.
