View Full Version : Well, I have the stall issue....

Took a nice long go-kart ride for the first time in cool weather. It's in the 40's, and I had bucking issues as the motor warmed up, and then once warm it tried to stall, or stalled, at every stop sign.
So who has tuned, and who has used the speed sensor?

This is a common issue and you may want to speak with FFR as they encountered similar problems until they installed the speed sensor.
I have read that changing the length of the O2 sensor wires, improper vacuum hose set up, low fuel pressure, mass air sensor, low octane gas, not burping the rad etc may all lead to poor running conditions. I am not sure how well parts other than those recommended by FFR (FRR used new parts) can be incorporated in to this install i.e. donor parts (ECU and wiring harness) as these may lead to additional tuning/compatibility issues.
I also spoke with the FRPP through their support line (1 800 367 3788) and they confirmed the speed sensor is required and that if issues are still present that a tune may be required. I ordered the speed sensor through the local FRPP rep and they provided the pins required for the ECU harness (relatively easy install). I have had no issues since installing the speed sensor however still need a thorough road test (in the spring). New FRPP ECU & wiring harness etc., used in my install.
Please confirm if you are using new ECU & wiring harness of donor parts.
Please keep us posted re your progress on this issue.
Good luck

Ford Racing harness, ECU, pedal, etc. O2 extensions from Casper electronics. Don't believe they are an issue since my exhaust went from so rich it burns my eyes to nice and clean once they were hooked up. Motor starts fine, idles fine, revs up fine. Once I put it in motion is when things go awry.
Looks like I'll order the computer.

I bought the tune from SCT, no speed sensor, and the stalling went away.

Would the SCT void the warranty through Ford?

Hey Jetsbaby - What did you end up doing regarding the speed sensor? Did you install it? Did you re-tune? What worked for you?
We are at the tail end of wiring. Need to decide whether or not to include the speed sensor. No donor parts on this build. Thinking maybe we finish up and turn the key and see what happens.
Any new info you or anyone has on this issue would be great.

Thanks.

I saw in another thread that Ford has possibly come up with a new tune that fixes the stalling issue. The poster recommended seeing about sending back your computer to get it reflashed. Has anyone done this, or called Ford Racing about it?

Been looking into this as I don't want to have to redo stuff. Depends on what transmission you have. Some have a VSS and some have OSS. From what I've read if you have an OSS signal you can go direct to the pin without the speed sensor.
I have a link but not sure if ok to post

Can you PM me the link? Curios about the same thing...
Thanks

Ok sent pms. I'll have to read the link rules again and see what I can share. Good stuff also there is a ford tech line guy on the mustang forum.
