I have a cable modem and a Netgear router, both furnished by Comcast. There are 3 wired computers. 2 laptops, 1 iPad, and a Wii are on wireless. Every 10-14 days, the wireless just quits and i have to shlep up the stairs to unplug and reset the router. The wired connections are just fine, but the wireless won't connect.

I have a cable modem and used a personal netgear wireless router. I had the same issue about once a month. Some time it required a call to the cable company so have them reset the modem from their end.

It finally quit and wouldn't reset a few months ago. I replaced it with a belkin and have not had an issue since.

I never have to reset the modem, only the router.

I didn't either at first and in the end if I was lucky. So It became a process of resetting both to ensure the wireless was back up.

Since swapping it out my wireless has worked flawlessly. I think it has been about three months now.

I've had a number of problems over the years with Time Warner Cable and their "service." once I got their issues squared away, I would have periodic problems as you describe. I switched all my hardware to linksys/Cisco, and haven't had a lick of trouble since. Only problems are when Time Warner has a problem.

Perhaps you may wish to consider your hardware...

I also use Comcast and had my own Netgear router which also was making me do regular reboots. This seems to be a problem that others have found with Netgear (SW issue)and to be safe, I did a swap with Comcast on the modem and also changed over to the Belkin router. The problem went away and the signal strength at my laptop has been consistently higher too. The Belkin is reasonably priced too.

Despite what we may think, the whole wifi router thing isn't fully matured yet. Just consider the upgrade levels alone, from whatever to g, then to n. Add your choice of WPA security, then double up on that with passwords, it isn't as plug and play as we would like.

Just went thru the whole system my son had set up, and had to learn as I went. The end result was that I may not have needed to do anything more than reset the router to begin with.
