I've been having some issues with the Holley carb that is on the car I purchased a few weeks ago. Without going into the details, if I can't get these problems resolved , I'm looking at various EFI systems to replace the Holley. There are several available and all have a simple setup and offer increased power and around town driveability. The one that jumps out at me is the MSD Atomic unit. It doesn't require a fuel return line and is designed for a retrofit look. That is, it looks like a real carburetor, especially when hiding under the existing air cleaner.

Has anybody out there installed one of these units and what were the results/problems? Looks like the biggest issue on the MSD unit is the installation of an O2 sensor in the exhaust. The other systems require installing a fuel return line in addition to the sensor.

I've got one of the MSD Atomic units - but it's not in used yet as I am still doing the overall chassis wiring.

I bought the Atomic shortly after it's intro at SEMA last year - largely on the basis of what I perceived to be minimal visible wiring in the engine bay, the ability to slip an air cleaner over the unit and make it "look like" an old school carb set up but still have the drive-ability of modern EFI, - and the general MSD reputation for quality products.

I am VERY optimistic about the unit.

Several on this (and the another) Forum have expressed interest in it - and I will post details/experience once I get it running.

1st start won't be for a few weeks (if all goes well).

The Powerjection III has a returnless system option and works well. The MSD Atomic is a new system and have not had one through my shop yet so I can't say to their quality.

Wayne;
Did you see any promising aftermarket EFI systems at SEMA that you plan to try out? All of a sudden it seems to be a crowded field. Any that seem to approach the price/performance of the PJIII?
Thanks

It's funny, Powerjection was a best new product winner at SEMA 6-7 years ago, 2 years later FAST came out with their EZ-EFI system, 2 years ago Holley came out with theirs and MSD came out with a display last SEMA and had product out 4 months later. The PJ III is on it's 3rd revision/refinement on software/ECU, each unit is placed on a motor and test run before being boxed and shipped. The one I got smelled like gas and thought they sent me a used one, called them about it and found out about 100% testing on product. I have played with the EZ-EFI and it's nice but the TB looks like a TB and not a carb, and is more expensive. Have not tuned a Holley or MSD atomic.

FAST had a Gen 2 EZ EFI system at SEMA this year that looks very promising. Not exactly sure when it will be available, but it looks to be a big step up from Gen 1.
