I am putting a LM7 engine into a FFR coupe and using an aftermarket LS1/LS6 harness and PCM to control it. The harness draws battery power from a connection at the battery terminal post on the starter. They way I want to wire the battery power is from the battery to a cutoff switch and then to the starter which means that the PCM will lose power every time I turn off the cut off switch. Does the PCM need a battery feed for memory or can I cycle power to it?

I'd like the cut off switch to be able to kill power to entire car.

thanks

JC,

I found a device that bridges the terminals on your cutoff switch. I will have to look for that reference again but it supplies your PCM with enough power to retain the RAM "operation routines" that it has stored to adjust to your particular driving habits. The reason I decided it was not necessary for me, reading articles about the subject told me the PCM redoes those adjustments after about 10 minutes driving time. I am still not sure about that. But some people want to retain radio memory for their favorite stations, etc. so there are other reasons for the electronic support. It allows for maybe 6v for the PCM but not enough to operate the engine (security). It's fairly simple technology. You could probably do the same process with a diode from Radio Shack. The good thing is it's one of those thing you can add on after install rather than having to take it apart. Good luck, WEK.
