Having done all of the body work on my Mk III, I am curious how the body for the new design will be made so that it can be ready to go without body work and paint. Is FFR going to use a different type of mold/technology to achieve this? For example, the door/hood/trunk gaps will have to be dealt with. On the Mk III, the pieces were over-sized and are trimmed/sanded to fit. Doing that would require body work and paint. Will the new design be come from FFR ready to install without having to worry about gaps?

There are ways of getting around some of this in the body design but I was just curious whether or not the bodies will employ a different/new technology that FFR has not used before.

Dave - can you answer this or should we just speculate? :D

Jon, from whats been said they are working closely with solid works and some other partners, it sounds like it will be a bit of different process then on our MKIII bodies. The design contest also says panels, so it sounds like were not talking about a single shell buy body panels. I'm thinking the concept might be to mold the panels oversize and then use the robot to trim them to an exact size, and then maybe mounting and clamping points get bonded onto the back. Should be interesting to see for sure though :)
