I have a 2000 donor, but have found out the rear axle is too wide to use the original style rims and the big goodyear tires.

I am told to use a rear axle assembly from an 87 - 93 mustang gt. Did they make a disc brake, 5 lug rear end during those years?

If not, do I need to convert one to disc brakes and 5 lug? I just need to know what my options are (rather than spend ALOT of money on a rear end package.

thanks!!!

Actually its a pretty easy fix. You can just swap out the axles and buy offset brake caliper brackets. Richard Oben has everything you need. Look up North Race cars inthe vendor list. The actuall rearend is the same length as the 87-93 its just the axles that are longer to accomodate the ABS rings.

Just like Mike said, go to Northracecars.com and get the brake and axle package, $340 plus $30 shipping. The kit includes the brackets to move the brakes inboard and the narrower 5 lug axles to match the 87-93 rear end width. Just finished this last weekend and it is a pretty easy swap.

Sorry, this is not correct. Austingoblue has a 2000 rear end. Unlike the '94-'98 rears which use the same width housing as the Fox bodies, from '99 onward the housing itself is wider. The housing would have to be cut to get to the Fox width. Easier and probably less costly solution is to either find an earlier SN95 rear and use the North Race Cars relocation brackets and shafts or convert a Fox rear to 5 lug and discs (NRC can supply the parts for this option also).

Jeff. Good catch. I didnt know they changed the actual length after 95.

Jeff....if I use a rear end from a 94 - 98 and it is the same width as the fox body...then would I just need the relocation brackets or the brackets and the shafts from North Race Cars?

The rear end housing is the same width as the Fox body but the axle shafts are longer, with all of the extra length outside the housing. You'll need the shorter shafts as well as the brackets to move the calipers inward to the proper position AS SHOWN HERE: "SN95 AXLES AND BRACKETS" (http://www.northracecars.com/Brakes.html)

They should make a sub forum called "Ask Jeff". The guy knows everything.
Cheers.

I second that^^^. Sorry about the mislead. I too did not know the width had changed after 98. One call to Richard Oben and he will set you up, he has been a wealth of information as has Jeff.
