After working on the chassis for the last 10 months, I finally got the body installed last weekend and have been making good progress. I have been test fitting some of the panels prior to sending them to be powder coated and today worked on the three panels on the bottom and edges of the radiator. I test fitted the LH panel and it was just about perfect. With the cutouts on the front edge lined up with the quick jack bolts (see pic), the top of the panel was about 3/8" - ½" from the top of the fiberglass nose. With a piece of bulb seal installed as per the manual, the fit will be perfect. However, when I test fitted the RH panel, I found that if I lined up the cutouts with the bolts as I had done with the LH panel, the front edge of the panel was about 2" behind the front bumper brace, there was a large gap at the top and the top end of the panel stuck up past the hood opening. If I moved the panel so that the edge lined up with the bumper brace, the cutouts were way below the bolt heads but even worse was a 2" gap between the top of the panel and the top of the nose of the car (see pics). Obviously, the bulb seal will never fill up this gap.
Can you explain why the RH panel has such a poor fit. Its almost like it was cut for a different model other than my MkIV. Because the fit is so bad, I will not be able to use it. Suggestions or recommendations?

Thanks,

Ron

Hi ron tony @ffr got to see you'r problem you need to start at the bottom filler pan under the radiator then were the side panel goes in you need to put you'r bulb seal on and fit it the notches for the bolts are not critical just placement on the radiator and top of body..thank !

Thanks Tony. Will try your suggestion and put in the lower panel first which might improve some of the gap although I don't see it filling in the over 2" of space I have.

I could never get this to look right. Buy (or copy) the nose aluminum from Mike Everson.
