I decided since it will be quite some time before any of us see a kit, that I would just register and drive my donor. It cost me a whopping $234. to insure it Hard to beat that. This will give me a chance to evaluate the condtion of all the donor parts and replace them as needed before the kit arrives.

Who did you insure it with, what type of coverage, limits, etc?

My 06 with a $250 comprehensive ded, $500 collsision ded, and $500k medical payout limits was $110/mo. My 02wrx with $1000 ded and the same limits is $90/mo.

Liberty Mutaul. Minimum coverage only. I have 4 other cars insured with them.

Since you can only drive 1 car at a time, adding additional cars on an existing policy is usually pretty cheap, as long as you're not adding an additional driver as well, of course.

I have Wawanesa and it costs $200-$300/yr each car for good, full coverage. My additional cars have been a 91 Miata, 99 Miata, and a couple 2002 WRX's.

We have 3 cars, 2 drivers, no one under 25. Might be because the WRX is listed as my main car. It cost more to insure my 02 WRX than it does our 2011 Mini Cooper S with the same limits but higher deductible on the WRX. Also, what are the limits on your "full coverage". You can be fully covered in every area, but have low limits. I just took what my parents always had, who are a bit more cautious and conservative than me. My dad always said in a bad accident, $300k in medical can run out quickly and then you're personally liable.

We now have 5 cars insured and our bill is less than $3000.00 Here is a list of what is insured. All have full coverage except the WRX

2002 Wrx
2005 Lexus RX330
2008 Chrysler Town and Country
2007 Corvette Z06
2006 Corvette Convertible
My Town and Country is the most expensvie at $850.00

100k/300k bodily injury, 100k property damage, 5k medical, comprehensive 500 deduc, collision 500 deduc, 25/750 rental, 100k/300k uninsured motorist

$950 for 1999 Miata w/ me as primary driver, 20k annual miles (age 34)
$700 for 2005 Legacy GT w/ wife as driver, 12k annual miles (age 35)
$260 for 1991 Miata, 3k annual miles

We got married 2 months ago and just renewed the policy. I need to call to see if changing status from single to married gets a change in rates.

Yeah, mine is maxed out at 500k for everything. I should probably go adjust that, save more mod money for the 818. ;)

Ok I got my donor registered today and started driving it. The car is pretty quick. The one thing I dont really care for is the aftermarket exhaust. its pretty loud. I feel like some young punk kid driving around in it. Pretty much everything works as it should. The only real issue is the struts. It needs them real bad. The car bounces terribly. Hoping to find a fairly new set for cheap. Would hate to buy new ones only to throw them out in a few months.

Check NASIOC for struts. I sold my stock 06 Struts w/springs for $100 back in the day.

For the exhaust, if it's an angled tip, they're the loudest (straight shot, usually a massive tip). My 02 came with an angled can with a 5" tip. I took it off for my 3.5" tip (with a massive canister to deaden the sound). I sold the 5" tip exhaust for $140 within 1 hour of posting it. Lots of guys will trade + cash for stock exhaust too.
