I built a Mk II kit in 2004 from a donor. I sold the car in 2010 and now I'm getting ready to order a Mk IV complete kit. I was hoping that some of you have an estimate of how many man-hours you have in your Mk IV complete kit builds.

Thanks.

It should take you about the same time as your donor build . Keep in mind though there is more assembly with the complete kit versus donor. Most of the donor parts are removed intact. With the complete kit everything is in pieces. For instance you need to completely assemble the front suspension, brakes etc. This pieces were already assembled in the donor. So any donor tear down time saved will be made up in the assembly of new parts. I generally need about 200 hours start to finish minus any body work and paint.

I've built 4 previuos versions and the MkIV is the easiest so far. The body is much better than any of the FFR cars I've done. Very little work required on the seems, doors fit and adjust well. Compared to the first roadster I did back in 1998, I'd say you will probably save at least 50% on the body work time. And since you don't have to take apart, clean, paint etc., all the donor parts you actually save time overall. Good luck!

MKIV complete kit. I think I was around 200 to 250hrs. Not counting time on the internet! It took 4 months to get it to the paint shop. I worked on it at least 2-3 days a week. Like Michael, if I did another one I think 200 is reasonable for someone that has experience.
