How fast will a Ford 302 with around 350 HP get me from 0-60 mph? I am wanting to get 0-60 under 5 seconds (I prefer 4.5 seconds) and I am doing a little research on engines before my manual comes. If I built this car, it would be used for street use. Also, where did you get your crate engine if you are not getting it from a donar? Thanks, Dnrice

If you have a minute go to the Factory Five Racing website and check out the MkIV roadster documentation. The reason I like that source is that the test was done under somewhat controlled conditions. And since it was done for publication, I think they were pretty careful not to exaggerate the findings. To answer your question, 0 to 60 times were around 3.6 sec. I just gokarted mine and it would surprise me if it doesn't do that well. The seat of the pants test sure tells me it's under 4 sec. The only thing holding me back is wider rear tires. It's wild. WEK.

I think it will also depend on your transmission and rear-end gearing.
btw, if you get the new Speedhut GPS speedometer, it has a function to clock you 0 - 60 times, I believe. ;)

0 - 60 times are going to be a combination of engine (your original question), transmission/diff gearing as pointed out by MPTech, and I will add also tires/traction. One of the challenges with 350 HP (or more) in a 2000+ lb car is keeping the tires hooked up. My 306 with a T5z and 3.55 rear gears will pretty easily smoke the tires in the first three gears. My tires are somewhat old BFGoodrich g-Force T/A's, which are OK but much better tires are out there. But I don't think you would have any trouble hitting the 0 - 60 times your hoping for with 350 HP and the right setup.
Lots of choices for crate motors. Fortes, Engine Factory, Ford Racing, and Tasca are forum vendors. Just be really careful. Some really good ones out there. And some that aren't. Check their reputation carefully, look for an actual warranty. And ideally since there is often a lag time between buying and actual use (e.g. while you're finishing the build) some will wait until the first start for the warranty to begin.
