As per the title.
Dave is still doing the um's and ahhh's on this one by the look of it so what do the community want?

Definately those big roll bars would destroy its mass appeal. At 818 kg and 230 hp, the performance will be there regardless.

I agree thats why my vote goes to the street version. or an RS (essetially the R but with a front screen)

Which ever one is the closest to Dave's vision of what it should be. If they're both up to par by the time he's ready to start orders, do both at once. At this instant in time, it seems he's happy with the R, but the S isn't quite there. Because of that, I say R, then S.

I think both will come out together, they got time to perfect the s

I would prefer to see the 818S, but it doesn't sound like it's ready. Go with the 818R and wait until you can get a top and roll-up windows to release the S.

Once again, I'll agree with The Oppenheimer. Win races on Sunday. Sell cars on Monday.
Let's get some wins under the 818R's belt, and then show potential FFR customers an almost identical car he or she can drive on the street. My build won't win any races - but in my imagination, I'll be driving a 450 HP beast with racing slicks and KONI shocks.
Get some numbers. 1/4 mile, track records, and get it on the Top Gear test track! Everyone driving a performance vehicle constantly bench races their car against more expensive models. And then they laugh every time they remember they were smart enough to save $50,000.
For selfish reasons I want the S first, but with the ability to add R options.

The real Top Gear, not that stupid History Channel knock off of BBC Top Gear.

I think the R should be released first. I am wondering how the MSO will read and if it can be registered in California under the SB100 rules???? I would like to have the R version and make it street legal.

For those that want roll up windows and a top. Remember it is a kit car and you will be installing these yourself. There is nothing that says they couldn't release the S and then offer these as an option later. Regardless, I am sure someone will figure it out.

THAT would be my hope. I'd buy one early on if I knew I could add these later for a reasonable incremental cost. What I don't want is to buy an 818 Roadster now, only to find out roll up windows are only available on the couple. That would mean a colossal waste of $9900 for me...

If the swatch watch concept is what I think it is then it would just be a matter of swapping panels to go from roadster to coupe.

I completely agree with this. That is one of my major concerns.

For marketing reasons, the 818R should be first . . . .but I think an 818S kit should be made for me now!
As a previous builder of a Mk3 roadster my 818 will be for fun so I'm not thinking about a top, windows, wipers, heater, backup light or other sissy stuff.

Agreed, would absolutely LOVE to see Clarkson's face if you got him behind the wheel of this.
Might even provoke him to say something nice about a car built in the USA.,.
Nah, I take that back..Too much to ask! LOLOL

Dave seems to be expressing that the R is closer to ready than the S. Based on that, it would make sense to deliver the R first, while refinements to the S are made. I volunteer R, Boxster Speedster-Style convertible, Targa, Coupe in that order.

From what I have seen, I think FFR can do both versions. They are very similar and Dave has eluded to that in his comments. I see the engine bay panel is different but both chassis should be produced from the same basic jig maybe with some bolt on peices for the variation in the door x's and the differerce in the bars. I can see them running small batches of each version (very efficient way of producing multiple products from same production line). At some point, I'll bet you will see them running both versions simultaneously like a custom order one after another. IMO, WEK.
Note: Don't think Dave wants to hold up deadline for accessories that are not ready so that could weigh into the equation. They've already experienced that so it won't happen again. After a closer look, I don't know if there is any difference in the engine bay panel. Not sure.

Sure, but how much would THAT cost? I'm guessing a LOT more than adding some parts for roll up windows or changing just the doors.

I REALLY think they should contact BBC Top Gear. American Top Gear IMO is a terrible show and not many people watch it compared to the BBC version. That would definitely get it out there to the global market. The following of BBC Top Gear is massive.

Very true, but the frame and all the running gear would be the same. Anyhow looks like their will be changes before the launch, so everything is still up in the air.
