My experience w/ honda interference(4 cyl) engine is that the valve(s) bend 50% of the time after t-belt break. Is this what you are finding too? I think in manual trans cars the % is higher.

So for EJ interference engine is the bend % less or same or more?

With honda generally one cylinder valve(s) bend and you have to pull the head. But w/ EJ if one cyl valve(s) bend then you just have to pull one of the heads(I see this as less work); unless to pull the head you have to pull the motor because the head would hit the frame/unibody and cant be removed with engine installed? Thanks

I was able to pull the drivers side head off my 1999 Subaru Legacy without removing the engine. It can be done, but it is tight and your mileage may very with other makes/models.

Pulling a head on a Honda is much easier. the head is right in front of you when you look at the Rhine and can be pulled off. The ej's you'd have to mess around with to get the heads off. Still love the boxer engine though

Ron, Did your t-belt break?; did you bend a valve? Thanks

No. Just had the common #4 cylinder burnt exhaust valve. Common with this exhaust valve. Seems it gets a little lean on this cylinder. Ran rough. The only problem is the head torquing is quite something.

I did just a couple of teeth on my other Subaru and while it ran really rough. No valve damage.
