Does this engine have any problems. I posted a link at the bottom. Will it fit(it is a 302 Ci). Does anyone know a tranny that pairs with this motor. I would like to get a 6 speed manual. Anyone know what the gear set would be? I was thinking about a 4:10 but was not sure. I am a few months out from pulling the trigger, anyone who has build one please post pics, I need some ideas.

It's a modular engine and FFR does have headers for it to fit a coupe. There are lots of other ways to get 600 HP, and none of them cost $18K.

You do have a point, But price is not an issue and it is a beautiful engine. I am so glad that they have headers because I don't want to fab something custom.

Well, sorry, but I mis-typed. FFR does NOT have coupe headers for the Coyote.

Are they working on a system for that engine. I was hearing some scuttlebutt about it on the forum.

600 hp and 4.10 gears will turn a 6 speed into a 4 speed while on street tires. It will spin them until 100 mph in 4th gear, but after 100 mph it will go like stink in 4th. I have 400 hp and 3.55 gears and have to pedal it all the way to 70 in 2nd, but it hooks pretty well in 3rd above 70 mph. Now on race slicks it hooks well right off the line but 1st gear is done in about 50' with a good launch.

Now on drag slicks it will hook well, but with 4.10 gears you will likely need to get all the way to 5th gear in the 1/4. With all that shifting your 1/4 mile times won't be so great.

Here is a good example of how quickly you run out of 1st gear with 3.55's and a bad launch due to gravel in the starting box. It hits the limiter in about 3-4 car lengths. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yjxmvUZpH90&list=UUd16s9zwPBUCB8EpK7OAzJA&index=2&feature=plcp

Another video with a good launch from inside: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uHtx7eurZYU&list=UUd16s9zwPBUCB8EpK7OAzJA&index=5&feature=plcp

I want the engine and the gears will be torque'e but what would you recommend on the rear end?

My car is not complete but I have been following along on the forums for about 3 years now and the most common answer to "what are the best gears" is 3.27:1 (and also 3:31:1). These cars are so light that you don't need a lot of gear to get moving.

As for a 6 speed manual transmission, you can certainly make a Tremec T-56 work but it requires some modification to the transmission mount. Look at the thread "The Start of a New Project" on the Coupe sub-forum as an install is shown there. I also understand that properly setting the pinion angle becomes that much more critical when using the T-56 and a solid rear axle because your driveshaft ends up being extremely short (less than a foot). Of course you can move the engine forward to ease strain on the U-joints, but then you are back into the world of custom engine mounts and probably hood interference with the supercharged engine noted above. Using an IRS differential would lessen the issues with the driveshaft angles, but there is an outer limit to how much abuse the IRS system can take (read: less abuse than a solid axle). If you are not abusive, however, I'd imagine the IRS will work just fine with 600 horsepower. In any case I would suggest that you would be better off just using a Tremec 500 or 600 5 speed transmission. Others may disagree.

Just looking at engine.. for the price you can get a ford aluminator engine SC ready version (http://www.fordracingparts.com/parts/part_details.asp?PartKeyField=12763) or NA (11.0 compression) for $8K (and then get the ford or after market supercharger for about 6K and easily make over 700HP if you wanted..
for Tranny I would find look at the tremec 6060 like on GT500 though the new mustangs 5.0's come with the MT82 but I hearing about problems with that one..
This same thing I want to do. I will only do daytona if I can get a new 5.0 (supercharged) or gt500 engine in there..

I agree with Jacob. 3.27's would be perfect and even then you will still have to pedal it in 1st and 2nd unless on drag radials or race slicks.
