I have a chance to purchase a clean Saab 9-2x Areo (rebadged WRX) that has no engine or trans for $500.00 locally. The interior is in great condition as is the exterior. Many sale-able parts. The wheels and tires are in good shape and the car only has 72K on the clock.

Questions,
1). Worth doing knowing that some of the parts need to be hunted down?
2). How much $$ for a WRX and 5 speed trans to replace on the open market.
3). Can I install a N/A engine and 5 speed and still be able to use the steering column and controls?
4). What else should I be concerned with?

I figured I could get the interior, suspension, cooling system and bits and pieces selling the rest off for more than I paid. I purchased a donor already for the 818 but being the miser I am, if I can do it for less $$ I will.

Let me know the thoughts.

Jim

Edit, corrected incorrect model. It is the 9-2x.

BTW a 9-3 is not the Saabaru, the 9-2 is the one that shares the platform

1) yes, would be even better to rebuild as a 9-2 IMO
2) $1000 to $4000, can be almost as little or as much as you are willing to spend
3) yes, may need a little messaging, but its doable
4) idk sounds like a great deal just for the parts you will be getting.

Sorry, yes it is a 9-2x thanx for pointing that out. Seems like a great deal but as they say when something is too good to be true........

$500 for everything but an engine & transmission seems like a steal to me.

Is anything wrong with it otherwise?

If it's a clean car with missing engine/trans, you could make decent money by putting it back to running condition and selling. Use the proceeds to buy your 818 donor.
