What is that engine?
Would it be suited for the 818? I certainly think a twin turbo 818 would be pretty cool!!

Older JDM legacy. FFR is supposedly building one with the TT motor. IMO, not much benefit over a standard 2.5L turbo model except being able to say "yo, I got twin turbos!". There's an odd torque dip known to the motors as the switching over wasn't great IIRC.

For some the cool factor doesn't weigh much (I woulld be in that group, in general) I think your quote says it all
"yo, I got twin turbos!". , I think TT have a bit of cool factor but these engine can be found for dirt cheap and they produce decent power (276 hp, I think). In the end, FFR is probably trying to showcase the verstility of their new platform.

Old 2.2 legacy engine? Should work with custom exhaust.

As stated, it's a '94-'99 Legacy twin turbo 2.0 liter motor. They never came to North America, but are relatively common as an imported motor.

There are two ways to go with these....

1. Use just the long-block and replace all the twin turbo stuff with a single turbo setup from a '89-'98 (also only imports, but more common). Then you treat the motor just like a normal Subaru turbo motor of the parts you swapped on (EJ20G/EJ20K). This will not work if your trying to use '02+ WRX parts for the single turbo conversion.

2. Also obtain all the wiring and ECU from the twin turbo Legacy and attempt to keep it as twin turbo. Only a few have successfully done this because any parts missing from your "engine kit" are very hard to source in North America.

In the last 10 years turbo efficiancy has really increased by leaps and bounds... when these cars jdm legacy gt, the fd rx7, the supra etc came out "big" turbos were just too laggy... these days you can spool a bigger turbo faster than a oem sequential setup without 36 vacuum lines and less headaches. I dont think the effort to run this motor would be worth the novelty.

As stated many times above the Twin Turbo legacy motor is just a bunch of headaches waiting to happen. Terrible to tune, and not much benefit over a properly set up modern style turbo. Lastly, the additional turbo/exhaust may interfere with some of the frame on the 818 as it was designed to use a single turbo manifold set-up (which is why a TT subaru motor wont swap into a LHD vehicle, interferes with the steering column)

A bud of mine just built a sweet engine out of the 2.2T which is a fully closed deck block. He has V8JDM heads that are ported and polished, all forged internals including a knife-edged and lightened crank. Revs to 8500 rpm!

Other than being a closed deck block, there's not much other benefit to the 2.2 twin turbo engine. JDM EJ207's are much better performance engines, namely because of the heads.

All twin turbos are 2.0 liter.

The only factory 2.2 liter turbos are 1) The very rare and highly sought after WRX STI 22B. 2) The North American only 1991-1994 Legacy turbo.

The 22B is essentially an EJ20K punched out to 2.2 liters.
The Legacy is a SOHC non-intercooled motor.
