I am about 15 days away or so from getting the car I have wanted to build for years. The money is paid, still working out if I will pick up or have delivered.by Stewart.

It's new home is almost ready (I had to refurbish the garage).

The plan: Non Donor; Driver; No Racing/Auto cross.
Suspension: IRS all the way around
Engine: 302 stroked to 347 with EFI/425 HP.
Transmission: Tremec
Brakes: Wilwood Brakes and Pedal Box
Steering: Manual FFR
Wheels: 17" x 9" Vintage Halibrand Replica Wheels
Air Conditioning/heating/vents: It gets hot and humid in Nothern VA
Soft Top: I want to drive this beast and not worry too much about the weather forecast.
Color: really TBD but i am leaning to silver with dark grey stripes. Black interior.
Battery Location: Moved to engine compartment.

Any recommendations??

Are you going for a modern take on the classic, or do you want to include some "vintage" touches to make it look a bit more period correct?

Chris,

I would like to keep the cockpit fairly vintage. I got the vintage gauges and I want to keep the AC controls "hidden" in the glove box area; the ducts under the dash as much as possible. I also ordered the leather seats. If I install a radio I would look at putting it out of site and using a remote for control. I have seen some 60s era radios installed under above the transmission tunnel.

I did realize that I ordered the wider 17 in wheels but other than the paint scheme I would like to keep the exterior old school.

Carl,

I should have also said congratulations on your upcoming delivery!!! I'm also using the 17" wheels from FFR (need them to clear the SVT brakes - 13" rotors), but going for a vintage appearance on the rest of my car. Here's a great link to period-correct mods... much of these take advantage of vendor-supplied parts or builder-fabricated bits - http://www.ffcars.com/forums/160-modifications-originality/

Best of luck with your build - don't forget to keep us all up to date with pics.

Oh, yeah... I forgot to say that all of us here and at ffcars are really good at spending other people's money, so beware!!!!
