View Full Version : Badging?

Will the 818 come with any badging? I'd like to see the Factory 5 logo on the front, "Factory Five" and "818" on the back, not stickers but real factory style badges.

Me too. It's the little details that really set a quality kit apart from a cheap one. I'll be proud to own a Factory Five and want others to know what it is.

Personally, I've grown attached to 818 (pronounced eight-eighteen, not eight-one-eight). I'm all for keeping the 818 moniker.

I don't think FFr would be inclined to mess around with cheesy decals. They do already have very nice pre-existing badges (available through their catalog for about $14 each), suitable for use on the hood and/or rear deck, and also at the center of a custom steering wheel. If we are lucky, they will include one or two of these in the kit at no charge. Otherwise, we will have to buy them.

I'm guessing that there will be 818 emblems available for use at the rear of car as well -- assuming that the 818 name sticks. While it was originally put in place as a project codename, my personal guess is that in this case, the 818 name is going survive as the car's official designation, possibly with various suffixes -- 818R for the track model, maybe 818S for the roadster version, maybe 818GT for the coupe....... You get the idea. But I have no particular insight -- we'll have to wait and see.

There is an old thread that discusses names for the car. You may have to dig back quite a few pages to find it -- but it's still there, I'm sure. You may find it entertaining reading.

I have only seen FFR do badging on the GTM (I guess that's part of the kit). I can understand why they stayed away from that practice on the roadster and coupe with all the litigation flying around. By badging I'm referring to the signage on the body as the "5" logo on the steering wheel and other various spots like the brake line brackets and control arms don't count. I can see FFR treating the "818" the same as the GTM with "Factory Five Racing" on the rear and some cool "818" logo.

BTW, there was a video where the commentator started calling it the 81A and repeated that several times. Dave didn't correct him. There was a lot of background noise so he may not have noticed.

I like eight-one-eight. There will be camps of eight eighteen and eight one eight people! And there may be some out there still calling it 81A and wondering what that means. WEK.

The camps already exist. Check out the old car-naming thread. Of course, those who choose to call it eight-one-eight are simply wrong.............;)

I can't really see 818 changing at this point. Even though it seems to be de rigueur these days, I'm not really a fan of alpha-numeric names. However "818" has become second nature to almost all at this point. Both Dave and Jim have used the name openly in various promotional venues, videos, and literature.

Of course, maybe they are looking for a "corporate naming policy" and will have no choice but to rename the 818 and all the others too.

It is eight one eight for sure, eight eighteen is only for people in the North East and certain parts of California. For the rest of us its defiantly eight one eight, defiantly... I have to go watch Wapner now.

What I'm thinking of doing is putting "FFR-Project 818" or just "FFR-818" on both sides of the 818. Here's a website that I found and I kinda like the second style: http://chromeemblems.com/auto_emblems/chrome_letters?gclid=CNGnttyepLACFYcBQAodvUS8ZA
But anyways, those are just my thoughts on my car, pretty sure not everyone is gonna badge this car!

Well think about other modern popular numeric models... do you say BMW 3-3-5 or three thirty five. Mercedes E 5-5-0 or five fifty. Infinity G-3-5 or G thirty five?

Im thinking the car will be the Eight-Eighteen.

LOL!! I've always said it eight-one-eight in my head. The tens of thousands of times I've read it it's been eight-one-eight.

Remember the old Bud Light commercials? Tastes Great! Less Filling! We'll have to park our 818's in separate lots and race to see who gets to choose the 'official' pronunciation. :D

I think a play on the FT-86/FR-S badge to say 818 would be cool.
