View Full Version : Order a FFC kit in phases? Rolling chassis then body?!?! Possible?

It’s been a dream for me to own a Roadster and to be able to purchase a replicate makes it just as close to owning one because of all the customization that can be done with a FFC kit. The kit is by far better build and safer then that one I’ve seen from other company. Although the FFC kit is far more affordable than owning a real Roadster, I’m still not able to purchase a kit. So my question to you all, since I could not find the answer after looking through the thousands of posts, can the kit be order in phase? For instance, I can purchase the rolling chassis first (the actual chassis, front & rear train, steering rack, exhaust, cables, ect. ) and then purchase the body with other components later (the complete fiberglass body including doors & hood, aluminum panel, seats, interior, etc? Is this possible? Please let me know and thank you!

Escarlata,

I know the 33 hot rod can be ordered that way. Don't know why FFR decided to start that program. Maybe it is a protype process to see how well it would work with the other kits. The best you can do now is order a basic kit for the roadster or a complete kit. That's sort of like what you want. Basic kit is definitely cheaper for a start up. You may be thinking of the Superformance program which offers a roadster in that format. Remember you will be adding about 1K in cost for separate shipping unless you are local. Just a thought. WEK.

Well, FFR offers two options for the roadster:

Option 1 is the base kit($12,990):

Option 2 is the complete kit($19,990):

The complete kit includes everything you would need to finish the roadster minus engine, transmission etc... The base kit is basically a rolling chassis I believe. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong though! But yes, you can purchases the kit in two separate changes.

On second thought, I think the base kit requires a donor to be completed, the complete kit throws out the donor part of the build.....

First point of clarification, it's FFR (not FFC). Factory Five Racing.

To my knowledge, Factory Five does not offer a staged Roadster or Coupe kit (they do offer this for the 33, but then they don't offer a Base & Complete kit for the 33).

The intent of the Base & Complete kits (remember, the original roadster only came as a "Base" when it was first introduced):
With a Base Kit and a Donor Mustang, you had everything you needed to finish your roadster. (just add paint)
With the Complete kit, you do not need a Donor Mustang, but you still need to purchase: Engine/Transmission/Rear End with Rear Brakes, Wheels and Tires, Paint, Fuel pump.

The Base Kit and a Donor Mustang are generally the most economical way to go, if you stick to the stock build.

skullandbones -I did not know they have that type program for the 33 hot rod. I wish they would have the same program for the Roadster. Bummer! :-( I've broken my piggy bank but it’s not enough to order the basic kit, which is probably what I will end up doing. I live right next to the Massachusetts border so I'm real close to the FFR (Thank you MPTech for the correction! ) factory. So that will be an unintended saving, if you will… :-) Thanks for replying !

Thanks timmy318/MPTech for sharing the info! :-)

Years ago (like 10 or more) FFR offered staged roadster kits but not now. I wouldn't look for the program to return for a variety of reasons. You've mentioned "rolling chassis". Be aware that FFR does not assemble them to roller stage; the builder gets a bare chassis and must aquire the other components either from Factory Five or elsewhere and perform the assembly.

Not sure as to why FFR doesn't have that program for the roadster available. It would make it much more affordable for people like me but I guess I will have to get another piggy-bank and continue saving until I make it to the $12k+ to order at least the base kit. Yes, I’m aware of that, besides where is the fun on ordering a kit that come assembled. No fun there other than being able to buy a replica already running and personal preference. :-) Thanks for the reply Jeff!

One problem with ordering a kit in stages is double delivery charges unless you pick up the parts yourself. In So Cal the delivery charge was almost $2k so if the kit was bought in stages you would spend almost $4K just to get the parts. But it might be worth it to someone that wanted to get started and didn’t have the total amount for the kit or could pick up the parts themselves. This was what I was told by the driver when mine was delivered.

I'm about an hour away from FFR factory but yeah t would be very expensive to receive the kit in stages. Thanks!
