Now that my exhaust system if pretty much finished, ready to get the body back on the chassis so I can start getting doors, trunk, hood, bumpers, lights, etc. fitted and aligned.

Was installing all of the required seals yesterday but have a question about the foam that goes on the square tube on each side of the hood. Does the piece on the driver's side go all the way to the firewall? Specifically do I apply it on top of the footwell panels? I was hoping to leave the top two panels off just in case I needed to get to the wiring harness or pedals. If the foam does go on top of the panels, I will have to go ahead and seal and rivet them in place.

Many thanks again for your help.

Ron

The manual shows it going back to the firewall on both sides. As I recall from my Mk3 build, however, it doesn't contact the body much behind the lip of the hood opening. So I think you would be safe to leave it off in that area. Having said that, many guys either put a door in that top DS footbox panel, or make the panel itself permanently removable. That's what I'm going to do with my Mk4 build. If you've spent any time on your back in the cockpit trying to work up inside the footbox, you know how important that is.

The weather stripping can end where the aluminum starts.
