I was forced to drive all the way up to Talladega Gran Prix track and spend the day driving a bunch of fun cars on the track. We had the track rented and spent all day flogging a C5 Z06, C6 Z06, 347 spec racer, turbo lotus elise and a D Sports racer. I know it's a rough task but I'll do to save my FFR brethren from this burden. Gorgeous day and we all had a blast. The Elise is an amazing car, I did three sessions in it and had a huge smile on my face every time I got out of it. It's making 219 RWHP, weighs 1993 lbs on my scales and was as fast as the Z06's around this track. The C5 Z06 was really a very competent car, really hard to screw up driving this car with HAL riding shotgun over the brakes and throttle (stability control system). Just go into the corner, brake late and turn in, do too much of any of those and HAL says, "Let me fix that for you" and the car corrects itself. But the icing on the cake was driving the D sports racer. It's a formula car chassis with a 1000cc motorcycle engine, 9&12" slicks wrapped in a smaller ALMS type body. The car weighs 1000 lbs, makes 151 RWHP with a 13,700 rpm redline, has amazing brakes, sequential gearbox with push button shifting. Going into turn 1, drop a gear and then bury the throttle and it just sticks. Over 100 mph and I gave it a little more wheel to check the traction and it just turned tighter, not even close to the traction limit. Come out of the corner, shift lights come on and hit the upshift button, repeat the process 1.5 seconds later, repeat again 1.5 seconds later and you're going 130+ mph. Jump on the brake at the number 3 cone moderately and realize that you've slowed too much, two quick pushes of the downshift button and accelerate back up to proper cornering speeds. Unreal speed, balance, acceleration and braking. They almost do not have words to describe how much more of everything this car does over the fast production car.

Sweet
Sounds like a blast! My Saturday was uneventful, however Friday I had a surprise visit from the one and only Gary Cheney. We were later joined by the Stig as well. Not hot laps at Talladega but a pretty nice surprise.

Wayne, you know the best thing is talking about how much fun the Lotus is given its relatively low HP. All about power to weight and the ability to corner :-)

Would love to have seen some laps in the D :-)

I do have video in the D Sports, it's in HD and I'll have to trim the clip a bit. Takes too long to upload a 2.5 GB at .35 MBPS

Looks like you had a blast Wayne! Still waiting for the snow to clear and the salt to wash from the streets!
