I've made the decision to go with fuel injection at this point. There are many companies out there, but I would like to know from FFR Roadster owners how their fuel injected experience has been going? Maybe some recommendations on companies I should be researching and why?

I was using a Haltech system. At the time - 9 years ago - it was a good system. But now it's old hat, and way past it's prime. The new Haltech systems are very good. Their customer service is also very good. The company is based in Australia, but they do have a US service center in CA.

Now I'm using a Megasquirt system. It's a good system, and has an amazing amount of features and capabilities. BUT, it's a DIY system, and not for the feint of heart.

For a ready to run system, I'd look at BigStuff3 and Motec

Many companies advertise their systems as "self tuning". Don't believe it. The computer can get your tune pretty close. But it still needs your input for the final tune.

Hi Mountainman63,

I planned to go stock EFI at first but after looking at the components of the 92 HO I had, it just didn't meet my needs. I wanted an engine that would perform similar to the one tested in the roadster on the FFR website. So 250 hp didn't cut it. I got a crate short blk with a nice cam and replaced the stock EFI hardware with components that targeted that hp goal of between 350 and 375. The EFI harness I went with is from Summit and you can get a PCM to match if you are not going the donor route. With that system in place, I am pleased so far! The static start was remarkably easy and the engine ran pretty well and after a bump up in timing it ran as well as I could hope for without a precision tune. Yesterday, we took it (the gokart) for it's first road test. The engine performed better than I could have imagined considering the amount of tuning. We live a little beyond the paved road so getting from my drive to the pavement was like driving on ice. True, I only have 7 1/2 inches of rubber on the rear but I was barely on the trottle. My son was impressed with the pickup (has a friend with a blown Cobra Mustang). He knows what 435 hp feels like. He called it "torquey". Personally, I felt good because I know how much room there is for better tuning.

Here is the main advantage. You can go with a stock PCM and get through the build and registration process and then decide what direction you want to take from there. So for me it will be a few more months before making that decision. I need to get comfortable with the performance I have from this little beast so I won't kill myself. This is the first Cobra replica I have driven and it is rather "scary" in that I don't know how much crazier it will get when I really dump the trottle. I think I will eventually invest in the tuning equipment (hardware and software) to go to the next level which could be another 75+ hp without adding any new go fast components.

There are a lot of expert EFI people out there who have gone beyond the stock tunes but there are probably more of us that have EFI and are happy with it as is. The only guy I have met personally who has a FFR, drives it as a stock HO. BTW, he is an avid drag racer with some high hp monsters but says he enjoys the drivablility of the stock EFI. I'm sure other more experienced EFIers will chime in but for one who had no experience with it, it's been a pretty smooth ride so far. Good luck, WEK.

I'm using a Electromotive tec gt system and if I had to do it again I would go with the Fast xfi system I have had nothing but problem with the Electromotive system. It keeps loosing the crank trigger sensor . Its been back to Electromotive for replacement. There tech people keep saying the crank trigger signal is difficult to keep interference out of. I've rewired it three times added a pull up resistor. When it works its great but I never know if when i press the start button if its going to get a crank trigger or not. There suggestion of bump starting it I did not find funny. Its tough to find a hill to park it on every time I shut the car off.

The Engine Factory website has information on the EFI systems thy install on their engines. I might be worth a browse.
