Congrats, Jamey, on the arrival! I also had backordered parts but soon found that I didn't have to nag FFR because they were very good at sending stuff as soon as they got it from their sources. The FedEx boxes were like Christmas gifts at the door and FFR did not forget anything. If you are married be sure to tell your wife that the boxes arriving are all prepaid backorders so all the other stuff you've ordered from **********, Summit, etc. does not bring questions of "how much did that cost?" You are on a amazingly fun journey so don't rush it.

Congrats. I only had a couple backordered parts and they arrived quickly without me having to do anything.

I'm not worried about the backordered parts, I've already received three boxes with in a couple days of delivery. This is a Father son project, so getting it done quick isn't really what it's about anyways. I think my dad is more impatient than I am though. It's definitely a couple of big kids with a new toy!!!

I bought the self cancelling turn signal switch from Russ Thompson today. Turns out he only lives about 15 minutes from me. So I met Russ today, very cool guy and has a couple beautiful cars.
Here are some pictures for those that asked, I'll try to post more later.....1219812199122001220112202

Another MKIV in mid-build in the south bay here (Morgan Hill). About 9 months in and I am still wondering why I didn't do this 5 years ago! Good luck...

It is going much faster than I had originally planned. Here is what is done (in this chronilogical order):
1) All alumunim dry fitted, drilled, then powder coated
2) Front suspension & steering installed
3) IRS diff & knuckles gutted and rebuilt with new internals (3.55s, TrueTrac, new hubs/bearings/bushings)
4) Rear IRS installed
5) Fluid resevious installed and brake lines run
6) Fuel tank/regulator installed and fuel lines run
7) Brakes installed
8) FFMetal battery box, remote charging posts, and master cutoff switch installed
9) Heater installed
10) Wiring harness and battery cables installed
I'm at the point now where I am finalizing my dash layout to send it out to be water-jetted so I can complete the dash covering, wiring & install. Just ordered the glove box and turn signal assemblies. I am starting to run out of things to do before ordering the engine/transmission!

Jamey, Congrats on your purchase and it looks great. I am new to this forum and am doing the research before purchasing. I actually just ordered the manual to study and probably will go to the build school before going all the way in. The concern I have since I would build it in my garage and that I have four kids under the age of 15 is the jack set up. Have been doing research and it looks like you are using jack stands on furniture dollies. How much does the chasis and frame weigh? Are you switching dollies out before engine or will they hold that much weight? Thanks, Dnrice

I can't answer for Jamey, but the dollies would most likely be removed for the engine/transmission install, then if needed placed back under the jack stands. Those appear to be the same Harbor Freight dollies that I have and they are rated at 1000lbs I believe. Probably not a very stable platform to use if the kids would be into horseplay around or the near car, especially if you're under it, but not a bad way to move the car relatively quickly or easily. I did the same thing with the build manual, bought it a year ago and read it cover to cover twice. Today is the completion date for my kit. I just hope Hurricane Sandy doesn't delay her delivery.

Jamey, it looks good.
Dnrice, it's good you are concerned with the jack stands with 4 kids around. I suggest you build a chassis dolly. You can build it as you like but the only critical measurment is the 20 inches between the points that hold the frame. I climbed all over this one and it was stable. Casters from Harbor Freight and include at least 2 casters with locks so kids won't push it around. I installed the engine & tranny and then ran the engine while on this dolly because I didn't want to buy wheels & tires until I needed them. Where are you located? Perhaps you can borrow my casters.

Actually, I have the jackstands and the dollys strapped to the 4" tubes with ratcheting tie downs. They have been very stable so far. It only gets moved 6ft or so sid to side. And yes, they will be changed for engine/tranny installation. It'll actually be on wheel dollies as soon as the wheels show up.
I did the same thing with the manual. It helped a lot with supplies and tools. I didn't need much as far as tools went. But it was nice to have the body buck plans. My dad and I are building this in a standard 2 car garage and I did a pulley setup to store the body against the ceiling.
The chassis dolly looks way stable though. The setup I used holds the chassis pretty high, which has been pretty nice. There's not a lot af bending over, everything is at a pretty comfortable working height. And they the Harbour Freight 1000lb small dollies.
