Just watched that episode of Battle of the Supercars where the GTMusaline-whatever went head to head with the Gumpert Apollo. Both cars had 700hp. But they just didnt go nearly as fast as I thought they would have. The GTM ran 169mph and the Gumpert 170mph. I really thought that GTM would have been much faster! I know they had a open differential. Anyone have any idea's, maby it was altitude. I have seen a stock ZR1 run 174mph at the Texas Mile (on youtube). I thought the GTM with that kind of power would have been close to the 190mph mark?

Sounds to me like the gear sets were not fit well for that track. I'm with you that the hp should be plenty to do a better speed. I guess the other variable could be how hard the driver is pushing the car. Maybe the suspension set up was one of the limiting factors. Wonder if you can tell the difference in 169 mph, 175, 180.....etc. I've been 160 but that's it. It would be interesting to get feedback from the driver to see how much control they have or are they just along for the ride. Would love to see that video! WEK.

The only control you have is keep pushing it or let off.

Go Over to the other forum there was quite a bit said about this http://www.ffcars.com/forums/42-factory-five-gtm-forum/245429-gtm-vs-gumpert-apolo-8.html

But I believe that LS Man summed it best over there when he wrote:

"The bottom line to all this is: A fairly poor example of a GTM held its own against a 1/2 million dollar car, with a small army of tech's tuning & repairing it between runs! It also shows that you really need to work on chassis set up & tuning to extract the true potential of your GTM. This whole ordeal confirms that a refined GTM belongs in this class of vehicles, & all of you builders are constructing a true Supercar. Also the person who spends $500k on a Gumpert cannot brag that he or she built it themselves! Kudos to all GTM owners.

Ted

That Gumpert thing is pretty ugly! "

Two points:
1) Why didn't they mention FFR at all? ( left out the 4 letter words)
2) VERY impressive to see a "kit car" literally stay door handle to door handle with a $500,000.00 pure race car..

PS: Swap drivers and I'd think you'd see a difference on the track part of that video.
Paul is a much better open course driver IMHO.
Tanner isn't bad but lets be honest, he is not a professional open course driver.
