Are you guys at FF recording the build times for this thing? I might consider putting my Diablo on hold. If I could build it in less than 3 months. I'm selling one of my Ducati's so I'll have the funds.

I am sure since this is the first time they are putting this car together, any time study would be of no use at this time.

When I talked to Dave last year they had a goal of about 100 hrs build time, so I'm thinking 200 hours should be a very good personal goal... With the "help" that keeps volunteering itself I think I can have it up and running in 4 to 6 weeks. I'm assuming 40-50 man hrs a week. Two of my friends have expressed interest in building their own...
He spoke of less aluminum panels, you can see that there isn't that much mechanical assembly from Wallace18's working on the donor post today... They are focused on making it an easier build, faster finish inc. no paint should get them built much quicker than their other offerings, with individual panels for each quarter etc body alignment should be easier...
Note, I won't be building a show car but a driver and autocross fun machine, detail work takes much longer to be "perfect"
Now that doesn't include any donor work, disassembly reconditioning etc... I've got a couple weeks worth of work in mine spread over a few months (no reason to rush, started early)
This is also based on their goals for the project, reality of the finished kit could mean a longer build time...

I forget how long I worked on my donor. I could do the math from my time lapse video to find out. Within a few weeks it was down to bolts and gone. Doesn't include time to recondition parts though.

I would say at least 24 man hours to just strip and clean your donor parts.
I would finish up your flying Diablo first... that thing is going to be a chick magnet.

X2 on that! He's got one in the cockpit and it isn't even finished yet. You'll probably have to beat them off with a stick when it's done!!@!

I would guess a very large chuck of time goes towards the wiring. Especially if you've never done something like that before.

agreed
We will inevitably crack some oem clips too...especially using aging wiring harnesses, (I broke a coilpack harness clip last plug change) strip and break bolts, and realize parts we thought were good are bad. little things like that set you back... luckily with a project like this, if you get stuck somewhere you can bounce around and attack it from a different angle.

LOL. Airsoft, I'm in Cali. The commies are about to ban those too. Nah I still have a bit longer to go on the diablo. Wish I had built a mrkII before I starting it, back in 2004. I could have been driving that while I was working on this.

ahh, here in NH we can walk down the street with a 12 gauge over the shoulder without too many issues BUT don't commit a crime in NH with a gun..
Very nasty and VERY old prison..:D

A guy that lives next to my brother is building a Diablo... BIG... project!! very complicated, work to fit stuff, custom work EVERYWHERE
Thankfully I live in Maine... I built an AK47 with folding stock 5 years ago. You buy the receiver flat and buy a ATF flame cut 3 piece imported gun kit. What a rush, we made up all the tooling to fold the metal, drill and rivet it together, flame harden areas, spot weld on a couple rail pieces, remove some imported parts, replace with USA parts, and Viola a hand built, semi automatic firearm! AKs are so simple and loosely made, you can build them in a basement with $500 in tooling
I need a short video loop to run in a photo frame next to my front door... My daughter is 16 going on 26, HS cheerleader, competition cheering too... she's a flyer toss her up in the air, she does splits, flips etc... I have to keep reminding her that most teen boys are pigs!

Just built 2 AKs myself. Pretty much had all the tools already. I bought the bending jig, gauges and had to get a few drill bits but for about $360 each I can crank out a 922R compliant AK.
quick and easy project and tons of fun.
GUNS, DIABLOS, and CHICKS!!! Really what else do you need in life...

What would you like know about it? Is it easy to pull out of the garage to start the 818? Yes! Can I drive out. Oh yes! I started the build in Texas late 2004. Now in Cali trying to finish it.

Fixed..:D
I have two daughters, aged 32 and 24..
The older one is happily married and has a beautiful pair of twins.
The younger one I expect sometime this year to call me and say "Ahh dad, your going to be a Grandfather AGAIN"
I remember ME at 16-25..
Fast women, fast cars and toss in a few beers here and there..More than a few..
What's that old line of Daughters are God's way of getting even with you for the teenager YOU were!"
When my oldest first started dating and the kid would come to pick her up I always managed to be cleaning my shotgun when they arrived.
I figured one picture is worth 1000 words..;)
