I'm posting this for a friend. Looking at buying a Mark 2 roadster which was a strictly donor build. It has the standard 8.8 rear with 3.05 gears & standard suspension. Long story short, would he be able to put the 17x10.5" Halibrands on the Mark 2 roadster. I would've thought they would fit, however, on FFR's website, the Mark 3 & 4 are listed, but NOT the Mark 2 for fitment.

I dont see why not. There are plenty of mark 2s with wide wheels on the back.

Yes.
Call richard oben at northracecars.com
He will know the right backspacing and you can buy them from him at a competetive price.

I had them on my first ffr..i will find a pic for you.

I have 17 x 10.5 Halibrands on an 8.8 rear in my coupe, which I believe is basically a MkII chassis at the rear. I am using the M2300K 5 lug conversion kit. It has 13.0" front and 11.65" rear rotors, requiring a 5.75" backspace. It upgrades to the 1993 Cobra R brake specs. I had to use a 35mm Eibach spacer for the front, the rear fit fine.

Thanks so much guys. Mike, that's what I thought, but was confused/concerned when I saw the Mark 2's weren't listed for the 10.5's. Dan, pics would be appreciated and thanks for the website. SnakeBit, thanks for all the info. My buddy will greatly appreciate all the tips/info.

You need to figure out what axles are in your 8.8 rear. Mine has the newer axles that accomodate the ABS system and they are a bit long which pushes the wheels out of the wheel well about 3/4 of an inch. Call Richard Oben, he will help you get it right. I think the standard backspace on the 10.5's is 6.5 inches. I have them on mine (Team III polished) and I will be doing the axle swap this winter.

He hasn't done a 5 lug conversion yet. He was looking at the conversion on late model restoration, http://www.latemodelrestoration.com/item/LRS-4234K/1987-1993-Mustang-5-Lug-Conversion-Kit Have any of you used this setup? This should work right?? Patpur, those look amazing.

He will need to do most of the 315 mod for inside tire clearance. He can get away w/ not moving the square tube that runs out to the door latch but need to do the rest of the mod to run 315 tires.Looks like that conversion would work as it states it will still be stock Fox width.

CraigS is right - the MkII chassis was not set up to accommodate the 10.5" wheels w/315 tires, so you'd have to do the modification. Axle width is also critical, as earlier posts mentioned. We configured our 10.5" wheels with a 6.7" backspace to work with a standard/Fox width (59.25") rear. If you wanted to use different backspacing, you'd just have to change the axle width accordingly, or vice-versa.

Good luck!

I've been running 17x10.5 wheels on the back of my MKII for 8 years now with no issues, although I'm running Kuhmo 275/40/17s, and I'm using a (I believe) 3/8" spacer. I used the 5-lug conversion kit supplied by Ford Racing. I know of another MKII with the same wheels in my area with 315s, and he said the tires only rubbed on very hard corning.

Whether it rubs or not is affected by ride height and spring rate. I like to run 4.25 inches and 250 springs so needed most of the mod.Probably 5 inches and/or stiffer springs would help. When i first mounted the tires on the car, I jacked it up to 5 inches and could drive it as long as I avoided big bumps and a passenger. So I started cutting and grinding the next weekend.

Could he run the 10.5 rims and narrower tires? 295 maybe. and avoid the 315 mod?

I did some searching, but to no avail. Can someone please post a link to the mod? Thanks
