In a little over a month FFR *should* finally be bringing us the 818...

Two things:

1. Roll call for who is going.

2. For those of us that are going what would you like us to do/get/whatever.

Not going this year, but will be perusing pictures daily on all the sites. For me, I just want pictures of all angles and the interior.

1: Not going

2: Pictures....of everything. Seriously, though, the more volume, angles, and variety the better. We've spent a long time analyzing video screen shots and have questions. The only thing I can think off off hand at this point is the shifter (is it Subaru? How does it mount?), the front CV (how does the wheel bearing and hub stay on), interior shot (how much room/how easy is it to modify things, differences between street/track), and a shot of the body work from multiple angles and a closeup to see quality.

Also interested in knowing what we get for $10k and how much we get nickle and dimed (err...jackson and benjamin'd?) for other things (not sure if they'll divulge that in other released or not, but you can certainly ask in person).

...... the shifter (is it Subaru? How does it mount?), the front CV (how does the wheel bearing and hub stay on),

From my google searching of pics (including the GTM) the shifter seems to be a Porsche Boxster unit on the prototype chassis.

Also from the prototype chassis, the front hubs are currently held on by the OEM splinesd stub shaft and nut with the 'guts' of the CV joint and drive shaft removed.

I just hope that we here on the forum can control the tone of our post-SEMA comments and open the flow of real info from FFR again.

Please find out if a tall person 6'3" or so will fit in the car. This is very important to me personally. Also ask if the wire harness is all from the donor or if some other one is used also.

Won't be able to go to SEMA :( Now the good news, it's fleet week in San Diego, and part of the Navy's celebration they open up North Island Naval Air Station's runways to Speed Week, were the runways are transformed to a race track so vintage cars can race. Looking foward to the week end.

<---I live in Vegas. It's my town.

Every year for the past 7 years the Flat4, Vegas' Subaru Enthusiast Club (http://www.flatfourlv.com), throws a huge annual party lasting all SEMA weekend. They call it Subie Invasion and it's sponsered by Subaru of Las Vegas, the local Subaru Tuner, Zenkai Motorsports, and online seller RallySportDirect.

Here's the webpage for 2012 Subie Invasion
(http://subieinvasion.com/)

Here's the current itinerary
Thursday November 1st., 7pm Eat, Gather, Talk cars, and Raffle at In N Out Burger on Sahara (https://plus.google.com/117433271670931731824/about?gl=US&hl=en-US)
Friday: (More) SEMA!, Vegas!
Saturday November 3rd, 10am: Gather at Subaru of Las Vegas. Free BBQ and Car Show. (http://subieinvasion.com/car-show/)
Sunday November 4th, 10am: Group Drive to Valley of Fire (http://subieinvasion.com/group-drive/). Group Drive ends at Roundtable Pizza.

All cars are welcome on the Group Drive, but you may be asked to park to the side if you don't have Subaru stuff in it. That is: a Subaru, Saab 9-2x, Scion FR-S, or F5 818. If you drive a rental Dodge your car would be asked to park outside of the group photo(s), but you're person is welcome to be in the shots. =)

Lots of eating going on, easy to meet when you have a group already meeting/eating.

Hi everyone,

I am a complete newcomer to cat kits but from the looks of it this seems to be a relatively easy build compared to the other FFR kits so I am up for the challenge.

I wont be going to SEMA but for the ones going, can you please ask and find out if any automatic or CVT transmission would properly fit? I searched and read the forums and I couldnt find any clear/final answer regarding this.

Thanks

It has been discussed, this is a kit car... sooner or later I'm sure some one will do the work to adapt an auto or cvt one in. The 6 speed from the STI will end up shoved it too... Factory five has to set some reasonable limits to donor compatability... Right now, bolt up 02-07 impreza, no STI, 5 speed manual only Out of the chute 5 speed manual is only trans supported.

I've tried that Matt, you need a LOT of pictures and they need to have good overlap to get any kind of decent model. It'll be tough to do without good access to the car from every angle with enough room to get proper pictures. I could not do it with the amount of room I had in my garage, so if it's not in an open area, you will need a very wide angle lens that doesn't distort the image. It would be cool, though.

WonderDude
10-15-2012, 01:56 PM
LOL! I wonder if they'll make a 2d to 3d app? It could work kinda like the panoramic apps. Just circle the object and then let the app render the final picture into a 3d model. ...EASY! ;)

Since SEMA 2013 is nearly here, I thought this thread could be revisited. Along with the things Benji brought up, I'd ask one more question: what question do want those who are attending to ask Dave and his team. I won't be attending this year, but for those who are going, if you could ask, how is the progress on the thermoformed panels going? Are the thermoformed panels needed to be finalized before the other variants of the 818 are brought to market including the hardtop?,

JAE

Not to worry flynntuna, I wiil be asking about the coupe version for sure. Like many of you, I have been trying to hold off buying until the coupe comes out - its getting hard though with the sales on the type 65 coupe.

Thanks John

Last year a couple of us Ageless Avengers snuck into SEMA and hope to do it again this year. If not successful, we might repeat the zip line ride over Fremont Ave. we enjoyed last year. It is almost as much fun as sitting in an 818 and going ZROOM..... ZROOM!

At Sema currently 818s are awesome! The Wilwood guys have one in their booth and no idea about it. They were telling everybody it was AWD lol and had a huge turbo lol, the one in their booth is NA. Looked awesome though! FFR did an awesome job with the carbon parts. Would be pretty sweet if they offered them as an option!
